Rubberslug Down for a bit
It may be a while till access is restored due to Hurricane Ike causing large amounts of power outages throughout the state of Texas.
I know Jason lives in Austin but I believe the RS servers are in Houston.
I do hope that all our friends here on Beta and RS that live in the areas affected by the Hurricane are all safe.

Ah...is that what it was?
I was websurfing six minutes before the ending of an auction when I noticed that my Rubberslug window wouldn't load. Then at the same time I was trying to get it to work my internet connection dropped.
I thought it was going to be one of those infamous moments when your internet connection drops right before the ending of an auction.
I rebooted and got the connection back running before it was too late, but then I noticed that Rubberslug still wasn't working.
Hope everyone is okay out there.

Hi, Rubberslug admin guy here. I just realized why Rubberslug was down. You know, like, a hurricane sorta came through. Yes, the server is in Houston. It should be very safe, but the rest of the interweb in and out of the city may be completely/partially hosed. I noticed it was on the fritz this morning but figured it was just my internet connection or something.
Other than that, all is well. Brian is right, no storm hit Austin. I saw some clouds in the distance, but they were the fluffy variety and not the scary variety.
I'll get status on this -- the server, not the fluffy clouds -- tomorrow morning when people are awake. (Given that our rack appears to be dead at the moment, the entire data center staff is probably awake!)
Sorry about any inconvenience this caused with anyone trying to update this weekend.
(I'd offer for people to e-mail me right now, but my e-mail is connected to the same server that is down.

Hopefully the server is all good and well. I know they were showing live shots of the JP Morgan/Chase tower Saturday afternoon and man that building got it had. the reported picked up mangled computers that flew out the window... ~_~
Insomnia sucks ass... *still has not gone to sleep yet*. If anyone starts craving the candy Air Heads, do not try the Hulk edition. Hulk Air Heads are not very tasty....

so, an update
Hmm. Perhaps I had underestimated the gravity of said storm. You know that Chase building you saw with smashed windows, etc.? Well, our server is not too far from there in another large building that sustained some damage. We were running on generator power, which was good. But then for various circumstances the data center had to be powered down, which was bad.
No ETA right now. This may last for a day or two. Currently making some calls trying to restore critical functionality to our network. On the bright side, there's a lot of expensive things and expensive people who live in our building who really like their electricity. Maybe they'll be able to pull some strings and get the lights on. Sorry to disappoint... ;_;
(On the *other* bright side, all the cels and stuff are still there, too! At least a tree didn't fall on my server.... because apparently trees are taking people's houses out left and right in Houston.)

yeah alot of the downtown area is being powered by generators I think... or... the electrical lines are underground... i forget which. I was going through my gallery last week and cateloging everything properly... I didnt get far into it though. Hopefully all of the data is safe. ^_^
