Modest CCS and TnN Update

Post by sensei »

I’ve done a modest update, one going back to my old lurking grounds, CCS and TnN. There aren’t any high-end items this time, but the additions are all interesting in some way and a few are downright enjoyable. Come and browse.

From Cardcaptor Sakura:

The Fight going inside to deliver a shoujocidal knockout punch to a flustered Sakura. (Heh. Seems like a sure bet, but don’t count that Cardcaptor out until we see if that punch actually lands.)

Sakura supersizing herself with The Big. It's amazing how huge this scan makes the cel look -- but it's an illusion. It's a standard-sized cel, no bigger than any other image of Sakura.

A delightful genga set showing Evil Fairy Meilin rising from the dead in the final scene of Ep. 42 to confront Prince Sakura after she glomps Princess Syaoran. (Don’t skip the shuusei that gives Meilin more fangs.)

A lovely Ep. 68 springtime background from the scene where Sakura returns to the past to meet Clow Reed. I love the French Impressionist style that the studio used to render the dreamlike quality of this great episode.

A funny rough sketch of Yukito and Touya dealing with the aftermath of the Flowery track meet. Follow the link and learn how to make rose petal jam just like Yuki's!

From Tenshi ni Narumon:

A cute cel of Chibi-Natsumi going to the Durian Comet Festival (with her wish – I want to see Onii-chan – posted on the durian she’s wearing.

A less cute cel of Natsumi screaming in grief as she watches said Onii-chan depart from this world.

Updates will continue to get smaller and farther apart as I settle into a smaller retirement budget. But happily it remains a good market to lurk in, and without spending a whole lot, I find I can continue to add a few pieces now and then. Watch for another little update in a month or so with some CCS and TnN (at least) once again.

Very nice!

The animators really did a nice job making that cel of Saurka seem huge - I think that is my favorite from this update. The sense of scope is pretty impressive.

Thanks, Penguinton! That was actually one of the first CCS episodes I ever saw (in the WB Kids dubbed version of infamous memory) and the excitement in the animation came across even if the dialog was often too surreal to believe.

It is really clever that the image is exactly the same size as most other cels of her, and yet the massive kaijuu quality of her in this form is obvious. The radical distortion of the Sealing Wand is one thing that works in a subtle way to create this illusion.

That is a magical set of episodes, and it's a shame that the North American release was suspended just at this point when the story begins to "click." I love getting cels of Natsumi when she's vulnerable, or chibi-Nats when I can, as I think that much of the series really is about her, and not Noelle. (Or rather, Noelle is Natsumi's "inner child" that she won't acknowledge until this turning point in the story arc.)

Thanks, all, for visiting. Even on a tight budget, it's still possible to find enough little treasures to cel-ebriate.
