Rubberslug Down?

Post by jenn-b »

I get this message at both the RS hub as well as my own site:

No web site is configured at this address.

Is he switching over the website to the new version?

The other day I was trying to compile a list of all the sketch titles I've saved/written down that have two or less galleries on Rubberslug. But searching for each title was so slow that I decided to wait until awhile until he's done doing whatever he's currently doing.

bad news

Post by noisywalruforgothislogin »

Having a really bad day.

I made a little mistake that turned into a big mistake. I'm in the process of seeing how much of it I can fix. I've fouled up quite a few section names while working on the site because I made a stupid mistake while typing out a simple database command. I'm trying to see how much I can retrieve from backup at the moment. The bad news is that the backup is a few months old.

The good news, if there is any, is that all your items and images are still there, sorted into sections. The worst case is that renaming the (relative few, created or edited after June) sections I can't fix would be a matter of seeing what's in the section and renaming it. I will manually go through and see how many I can fix myself. I guess watching a lot of anime paid off, finally?

I've taken the site down in the meantime while I do some damage control. More details when I have them. Sorry in advance. This is why I've been working so hard on this -- the new site makes a lot of these random explosions far less likely. I suppose it was inevitable that I would eventually screw something up because I've pretty much rewritten the whole thing from the ground up.

update

Post by noisywalruforgothislogin »

Update: I can restore 98% of the affected section titles as well as their settings and descriptions. I will make a valiant effort to rename as many of the others back to something reasonable, which should be about half or better of the remainder. I hope to have this done by end of day.

More when I know more.

No prob. I'm busy making money that will eventually help me buy more stuff that will translate into an update maybe around Thanksgiving. So my lurking on RS is pretty limited now (ditto YJ ditto Beta).

Sorry though that you had to clean up such an icky mess. I'll help gather up all the Vampire Knight sketches that fell on the gymnasium floor and try to find out to whom they belong.

I'm looking forward to the new and improved RS site. What I see already looks very good and lurkworthy.

report

Post by noisywalruforgothislogin »

Site is back up. There were some unavoidable issues with the data corruption of section names. I pieced together what I could by going through Google and Bing caches of your pages and plucking the section names from there (phew!) so only a few people have more than 5-10 section names to fix in their own galleries.

Sections that I couldn't save have been renamed "Gallery Section". Feel free to rename these at your convenience to their original names if you were effected.

I'm really sorry about this. I think this may be the first time I've flubbed a command that wiped out data on the site in nearly 10 years of operation. I know that doesn't make it any less annoying if you were affected (~1% of section names were affected). The net effect of all this arduous work on the site is to free up disk space permanently to allow for more regularly scheduled backups and creation of new site features.

Apologies for the growing pains!

I've tried to rename the "gallery section" titles but all I get is this message:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 've'.

/member/inv_seriesmanage.asp, line 100

Hopefully you can figure out what's wrong here. Thanks for your hard work!

Ah, no biggie. Thanks for all the work you're doing on it.

I think the only sections that got affected for me were my Chaos Head and Asura Cryin sections. No big thing there.

Well, what do ya know? Rubberslug had issues and I had no idea. Jason did an awesome job restoring it and it's back so quickly. And of course, I'm in that 1% of "gallery section". :hitting: Ah well, it's not so bad. I'll find time one day to "repair" them. :P

Phew, at least it wasn't just me! It was the first time in like two weeks I went to my Gallery and was like, "Whhhaaa~??" :^^:

Sadly I have the same issues as the others when trying to rename the my Galleries. I also have a similar message on my 'Wishlist'... :l

Glad you were able to get it back so quickly, though! That's awesome of you to go through cached pages to fix Gallery Names...that sounds annoying! You're a machine! :D
