Gallery Update - CCS Hankens

Post by rallihir »

During a business trip to Tokyo, I had the opportunity to pick up these two very nice CCS hankens. Summer in Japan was very hot and humid, more than I can remember in the last couple summers. Besides the hankens, I also had the opportunity to visit Nagano and see some of Japan's traditional woodcraft which is very prominent in the Nagano area. Both the hankens are used to promote the CCS movies. One is from CCS Movie 1 and the other is from the second movie. Both of them are also featured in the Cheerio series CCS Artbooks. So, please enjoy these two scans of CCS hankens.

Very pretty, and lovely additions to your unparalleled CCS hanken collection.

I can add that your Movie 2 hanken was also used for a shitajiki or pencil board, as I started out collecting some of these back in 2000 when I was just beginning to be interested in cels, and this is one that I picked up somewhere. Oddly, when I did a Google image search for "Shitajiki Cardcaptor Movie" I didn't turn it up, so it may be scarce. (It is pretty sexy for CCS, so maybe they were all bought up by creepy otaku who use them under the letters they write to their lawyers from prison cels.)

Anyhow, congratulations and welcome back from Japan. I'm glad you got to see something other than business while you were there.

Hey, I have that shitajiki and I'm not that creepy of an otaku! ;)

Lovely hanken cels, I am truly jealous. :D

Thanks everyone for the comments. I agree that the CCS Movie 2 hanken is more provocative than most CCS cels production or hanken, but it is still a thoughful image evocative of the spirit of the CCS 2 movie where all the characters are maturing into the next step in their relationships. As the bella donna of the ball, how could Sakura not have an image like that. As sensei comments, products with that image appear to have been popular. I wonder where all the okaku have put them?

Interestingly, Movie 1 cels of any type are quite uncommon and hankens even more so. Both these hanken are oversize and the Cheerio hanken images are both double page spreads. Hopefully, there will be others to come in the future.

Beautiful update, as always!

It's been an unusually rough summer in Tokyo this year. It was still unusually hot last week, but I think Summer is finally going to break this week. Unfortunately, I didn't get the message from my colleagues that we would be following the "CoolBiz" policy until after I was there (we haven't historically). Anyone wearing a tie or jacket really stood out this year much more so than I can ever remember. I think that was both a sign of how hot it was, and I think people are starting to feel a little more patriotic about the energy savings this year after the disaster.... kind of put things in perspective.

Hope you were able to stay somewhat cool on your trip.

Robert
