I am "ghosting" on RS this evening, updating site text under my gallery's link list and a section on display, and the site's response time is a bit sluggish. I was trying to organize some links and I keep receiving this proxy error message:

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I think the search function on rubberslug is not working correctly. The search results doesnt seem to show any of the newer items people have posted. You can test this by just simply searching for something you have posted within the last few months.

i wish we had a volunteer interim webmaster, someone noisywalrus trusts, to help maintain the site while he is away. the future of rs has been a question in my mind for several months and yet remains to be unanswered by our webmaster.

The half working/broken part of RS search is what's the most frustrating for me.

Happily, "Rubberslug" is not so widespread a term on the web. So it is, in a pinch, feasible to just use Google (or Bing, or whatever you prefer) to search for "Title of Series" + "Rubberslug." The response is verbal rather than visual, but it's easy to see what relates to a cel gallery and what doesn't.

But, yeah: some of us have been trying to get Jason interested in "Rubberslug Ytterbium" or some such, in which some of us active users would pay a modest annual fee in return for some enhanced services (such as the ability to delete old scans and replace them with new ones). Nevertheless, it is worth cherishing the fact that such a broad swath of animation art is available under any conditions, including galleries that I suspect have long since been abandoned by their collectors (and the cels put out for the trash by their curators' mothers).

Don't know why I didn't think of this. X| There is a Google query that you can run:

site:rubberslug.com x search term (s)

e.g., site:rubberslug.com sadamoto japan expo

Using this I can see my uploads (coldsteel.rs) that are not displaying in RS search, but are popping up in web results, which is generating more complete results than Image search.

:bow :hello Thank you, AR-99!! :hello :bow2:

One odd side-effect of RS's limitations is that it has taught this mesosaur volumes about searches and html markup.

Has Rubberslug's classification changed lately? My workplace is now blocking it due to it classifying itself as "Adult/Mature Entertainment". It does the same with Mandarake for the same reason, even though looking up pornographic stuff is the last thing I'd consider doing. It only started doing it today, which is odd considering that I've been viewing RS at work for over 10 years.

Oddly enough, I can access the Victoria's Secret website at work, which, IMO, is far more scandalous than 98% of all artwork I own.

Any chance we can change it back to something of a more educational value as the majority of artwork featured on the site is not adult in nature?

I was wondering if the site could be programmed to allow a login to view adult items, but that's likely to be quite some work given that it's up to the gallery owners to self-censor such items.

This topic (about making adult items less easy for anyone to view on RS) has been discussed at length on the RS forums in the past. I don't believe any agreement was ever reached, and given that Jason doesn't seem to do much of anything except basic maintenance anymore, I'd say we're more likely to be hit by an asteroid than see a better system for handling the serving of adult artwork on RS implemented.

I have to laugh at RS being blocked by a workplace filter -- I always figured it was only a matter of time. I'm surprised it took this long. CB, the filters for web browsing that most workplaces use don't just take into account what you are viewing -- they account for all of the site's known content. Someone probably either reported the adult content on both Mandarake & Rubberslug, or it got discovered and the sites were added to the list that categorizes them (rightly so, I have to say) as adult in nature. It doesn't matter if you never view those parts of the sites -- they're still there, and still publicly accessible. As for Victoria's Secret, I'm sure that's categorized as a retail site :rollin.

if we had an interim webmaster, we could get these censored appropriately, get the bugs fixed, and get the OS streamlined for efficiency. we could "clean up" the confirmed "dead" galleries and move those galleries who are trying to "exit" the hobby into the shop and remove them from the gallery listings. basically, get our bang out of our buck for all our sponsorships.

think about it. sponsors keep the site up and running for a nominal fee of $4.95 a month, a small charitable gift. we should get what we paid for, a functioning complete-well-run site. i understand that this is not a subscription based site and we were not presented with TOAs nor are we sanctioned as a educational nonprofit, and do not receive Tax Deductible statements annually to claim on our taxes. we need a positive shift in the management of the future of RS.

Yeah, I'd gladly pay $5/month to have a better Rubberslug experience, especially if there's the possibility of a kosher offshoot that I could view at work. I really miss looking at RS at work, and I miss updating from here too. Sometimes days are slow and I just want to feel that I've done something productive during my lunch break.

And I disagree that RS should be blocked. If the company doesn't trust that you'll behave, why give you access? I usually just trolled around inside my "Coming Soon" section, largely playing around with kanji and katakana characters. Yes, I have some more mature art on my site, but I had enough sense to never look at that stuff at work.

It's too bad we couldn't approach him, as a group, and tell him we'd be willing to pay a nominal fee each for a working gallery. Maybe it can be something like gym membership - You pay $5/month or $50 for the whole year for full access, and those that can't or don't want to pay get the same services they have now.

Looks like RS is down again.

Also, is anyone else having problems adding dates for items purchased in 2014? Every time I try to enter a 2014 date, it asks me to add a valid date.
