First update in 7 years... Mega Man!

Post by Ryouko »

Took me a long while to take the plunge in buying another cel, but I just could NOT pass up the opportunity to purchase a piece of gaming history. A good friend who aquired a small box of these from a former Capcom employee graciously agreed to sell me one, so excited! Mega Man from the Opening Credits of the Mega Man 8 Playstation 1 game, 1997!

A-5 Key Cel, attached to the sketch (it was backlit onscreen so the back was painted completely black). Small crease in the sketch but NOT in the cel, thankfully. Overall not bad shape for being improperly stored for 20 years!

I would imagine video gaming cels are very rare, especially as you get into the late 90's and most major series begin going all 3D.

There is much to learn here. I came here initially seeking informal advice on whether certain sketches were genuine. I'm now learning critical information for not just care and storage of animation artifacts, but also repair as well.

While I have never owned a Mega Man game, I certainly respect his place in the history of gaming. I've even gotten some pleasure from the older NES game music. I just love the Flash Man stage theme from Mega Man 2.

I even tried to convince my second cousin, who is part of the local high school band, to talk her bandmates into playing this theme during games. (You know, provided the school could take care of the legal matters and what not.) According to her, they weren't really interested in video game music.

I can hear the band instruments playing it in my head. The band could play the lead in as they MARCH OUT onto the field IN RHYTHM with the beat. Properly arranged, with a good band playing, this would ABSOLUTELY ROCK a high school football field!! I could just see the opposing team, many of them may not even know what a NES is, wondering what in the heck is going on. Maybe they'd think if the opponent's band is this tough, the football team must be too! The adults on our side who recognize it begin clapping in rhythm with the beat, then their kids join in. Perhaps even the adults there to see the opposing team would clap if they recognize it.

There is so much attitude in this piece, it could be made so fierce.

Oh it would be so cool! How many kids of today would see it that way?
