I need a gallery...

Post by kizu »

Haven't posted here in a long time nor have i updated my Rubberslug gallery in ages. I still buy once in a while and I have a bunch to update but I've run into an issue and was wondering if anybody has suggestions in a gallery software I can use to finally get my gallery started again? I have a domain name, webhost and a few website skills but I'm no coder and my knowledge on html/css and SQL is at least 10 years old. :(

Although I do like RS, it's a great place to browse the updates on the front page or the series list... I don't search on it anymore since it pains me to see that the search still hasn't been updated from the last great RS update... Most of my old stuff is in RS but it doesn't fit my needs most of the time and so I feel reluctant to update it. The closest I've ever gotten to a gallery I liked is what I have now that I borrowed the script / code from a fellow collector who has been around longer than I. My circa I think is 2005/2006. His gallery is really good in that it allows me to have up to 5 sub pictures related to the main image but to be honest it's a major pain to delete or amend anything (it requires a manipulation of the database via SQL - something I'm not that great on) since that function wasn't built and I doubt he'd work on the script ever again - though I'm still thankful for it.

Any suggestions? I'd love to get back to sharing a more up to date version of my collection again. I just however need a more elegant and up to date solution.Thank you and "hello". :)

Glad to see you're still around. :)

I wish I could give you some advice, but I'm kind of in the same boat. I just use a XML / CSS template I made years ago and tweak it here and there. Hopefully someone here can give you some info. I would love to see how your collection has grown.

RS is getting extremely hard to use these days. I personally use jimdo and weebly for my personal gallery. I use the free account and what they have is enough for me. I don't even need to code.

Thanks! I'm glad you're still around too. It's nice to see a familiar "name". Yeah I do have some pretties to put up and it takes effort but I just am not sure if I want to put that effort in anymore without easy sub-pictures. I must've "moved" 4 times and each move cost me time and lost information. By the way I love your new additions. I'm glad -that- one went to you. I'm sure you know which I speak about. :cheers

Thanks for the advise. I do worry about RS updates not just searches but also the "sizes", these days I go back and forth between a 4k and 1080p monitor. 1080p is not so much an issue but now that 4k is here I worry that high quality scans back then don't live up now. As for Jimdo, yeah it does look pretty straightforward but my main consideration is ability to put up sub-pictures to a main cel. You know like here's the cel, here are the douga/genga associated with it. No worries though. It's good to see what's out there these days. Nice Doraemon group cel by the way.

I'm a little late to the party, but I host my gallery on Artwork Archive. It isn't free, but I've found that it does a good job of helping me organize.

My gallery: www.cartoonedin.com
Password: inkonpaper (I only have it password protected to prevent Google from scraping all my images).

Have you considered creating a free account on https://www.comicartfans.com/

Yann, and quite a few art collectors including ourselves are on there too. :)
