New website for us to host galleries on

Post by tarakatsuki »

I am wondering if there is any interest in getting a new website made where we can host galleries for our cels. With RS constantly crashing, and worrying it will one day go down for good or something. I do have a relative that has the skills to create something like that for us but obviously he won’t be working for free. So I am curious if there is enough interest between a few people at least who would be willing to chip in and help fund this? At the moment I have no idea what he may charge because he has been waiting on RS to go back up to see what the site is like.

By far I think instagram works the best.
If you can do Japanese website, https://muuseo.com/ is a good place to go
Autograph focused collection. Collect cel, genga and douga on favorite characters from animes.

While I would love to see this happen since the site does need some TLC and new users cannot join currently (no verification email is ever sent), it would be a bit more than just a website that is needed I believe.

What would be needed is:
  • A new domain (easy but does have a monthly/yearly cost)
  • A server (this is where it can be pricey)
  • Probably a dedicated computer for said server to access it and do updates
  • A new operating system
  • A credit card/purchasing system if you still wanted to have a selling area
There could be more I am missing as well. This is just what got rattled off to me yesterday night when I asked what it might take to redo that site to my friend who is in coding.

I told my cousin to not bother looking into it since there hasn't been any real interest at all. Aside from a couple of people who said in chat that they would be willing to pay to chip in for a new site. I am not interested in bothering with making my own site again, and I do like the input boxes for information on each item in RS because that's useful. I mainly use RS just to keep track of my own collection. My interest in Instagram is pretty much zero.

Oh I totally agree that how it is set up is useful, I was trying to mimic something on weebly last night and just totally failed imo. Just didn't look as clean. I'm not sure if it was a question you had tried to post to the facebook group instead? It seems more people are active on there then here.

The only FB group I'm in is the Anime Beta & RS one. I'm tired of FB too. If it wasn't a good source to network for my line of work and to learn from, I wouldn't even be on there. I'm not a social media fan. I just want there to be a site very similar to RS that is updated and reliable. Lol.

I can understand that, I didn't mean upload your gallery to FB I meant had you asked the Anime Beta & RS group on facebook if they would be willing to pitch in some money to get it started like you did here on the forum.

I didn't ask in that particular group; I know there is another cel collecting group on FB that I'm not in though. Aside from myself, it seems like there may be just a couple other people that would chip in but that's not nearly enough. RS isn't going to be improved and I'm sure it will just die one day. Then I'll be at a loss as to what to do in terms of having my gallery hosted somewhere.

It would be great to have another website. RS is good in terms of organization by series, character and "updates" in the front page. Unfortunately the series search and the cel search function hasn't been updated for years which is sad.

I have an instagram account and although some people are there, an instagram account doesn't really make for a good gallery where you can curate your collection properly and you don't have much control on the sharing. The other disadvantage is the searching, tags are good but i don't really want to see a lot of non-cel related items if i'm looking at a particular tag of a show and i don't want to see every cel in the cel tag if i'm only interested in artwork for the show... And don't get me started on those picture "fill-ins" where people will sometimes update 1 portion of a cel over several days and essentially filling in the entire image of the cel. :?

Right now the only thing I did is move my collection to my own wordpress site. It works for me mostly because I'm really just the consumer of my gallery and I didn't want to use a proprietary code because I find that once the developer is done with the project or doesn't update the project anymore - the website will get broken and eventually die. So it's easier to just use a popular web cms, that is so large it gets updates and is supported by most host with a few clicks.

I like to see other people's updates in RS but in terms of my site updates, i only update RS once in a while. It is sad though that it's come to this. It's nice to just go to one website and see the many different galleries... If people did have their personal galleries and their own website address, I'd love to make a "link list" similar to what they used to do with anime cel rings where those who want to be on the list, must add everyone's link to their site so everyone is linked. The draw back to this is when people don't update their website link, it gets broken. Here is what was used to be done old school
