Gallery update 2022

Post by JWR »

Seeing that my last update was almost a year ago it is amazing how time passes so quickly. You plan to update but something always seems to take priority and it gets put on a back burner.
We are still actively looking at items to add but are getting selective for we will need to pack things up next year as I retire and we move across to the east coast nearer my son.

To start off we did find a very nice hanken from the Nadesico movie

On the non Anime front I got a couple of nice pieces from our friend Comic artist Mog Park who has done work on the comic book version of Game of Thrones and other book.
1st is a cover from a new book from an indie publisher called Snow Paw (this is the 1st book she has done both cover and inside artwork for)

She also did a take on a female character set in the Vampire D universe Maria really liked.

Also I did get a Tetsuro Sawada Artist Proof lithograph titled Dawn

Besides comic art and Anime I have been collecting historical items of the horror author H. P. Lovecraft and I have started a section on amazon pictures to display them if anyone here might be interested,
On display there is a copy of 1906 Scientific American where Lovecraft had his 1st writing of a letter to the editor published. One of the book from his personal library that he personalized with where and when he got it. A test copy of his writing to a group of writers he belonged to. There are only 8 know copies of this test pages know, 4 at Brown university so I have 1 of 4 left in private hands. Lovecraft's personal copy of Causere which has a verified correction by him. and a few pulps where his original stories were 1st published.

Sorry to be late in appreciating your update, JWR: My collecting time lately has involved doing a gallery "crawl" (a term I get from vintage organ lovers, who really do have to "crawl" through these huge instruments, looking for the many little problems that crop up over time). I've been eliminating or fixing broken links, supplying screen grabs, correcting typos and missteaks of all kinds.

Congratulations on a nice batch of Yumeria art (animation director Shinobu Nishioka who was a major influence on the Rayearth OAV). That's an under-the-radar series that had extremely nice art, and even though I'm not much of a collector of rilezu art, I once bit on a pretty item from this series. Office F&O did outstanding work on the series they licenced, and the images are well worth a long, appreciative look.

Congrats also on some historically interesting Lovecraft memorabilia. My research has touched on this influential author recently, notably his role in creating the sinister aura of The Necronomicon, a non-existent occult work that has become a key working part in recent conspiracy theory lore. (There are several allegedly "real" versions of this evil book, the reading of which results in depravity and damnation, and it's assumed to be part of what gives the Illuminati their power to influence world politics and economy.)

Best wishes to you, your family, and your collection!

There is nothing to be sorry about Sensei cause life always can give us more things to do than time in the days to do them. (I have gotten a lot of these pieces earlier in the year but it took me till this month to finally update here).

Lovecraft and his creations have always held a special place in my life growing up and he and Poe are the foremost top of the genre of "weird/horror" tales. (most of my comic collecting involves works in this area). Since Lovecraft's works have passed into public domain they have become the basis for many other authors stories.

I am reminded of his quote
“I couldn't live a week without a private library - indeed, I'd part with all my furniture and squat and sleep on the floor before I'd let go of the 1500 or so books I possess.”
― H. P. Lovecraft

It is great honor to have been able to find and now own one the books he held so dear. They don't come up sale very often and are prized for being one of few items that he personally signed in addition to the many letters he wrote.
