Can you believe........

Post by Gonzai »

I just got a jury summons in the mail today, and its
for July 3rd - right in the middle of AX. 8O I already
have hotel reservations, plane tickets and everything.

The bottom states, "Automatic exemptions are not
allowed for reasons of inconvience." X|

Someone please tell me this can be changed. :hurt:

I believe that you can request another date due to the fact you have already business plans that require your being out of state. You may need to provide copies of your plane & hotel resevations. In most cases you can get them to reschedule your jury service.

Check into the rules. For example, I know that the courts out here have a
"no excuse" exemption for jury duty, but it's only like once in every 2-3
years, iirc.

I was summoned for jury duty a couple of months ago and I also had reservations already planned. But I went in anyway and it turned out that the person settled out of court. I got lucky and the judge told us that since we showed up to fill out all the paper work, she would count it as jury duty...so I don't have to worry about it for another 2-3 years now. Maybe you'll get lucky too if you can't reschedule ^_~

Best of luck, Pudge. I am looking forward to meeting you at AX, and this would be a lousy reason for you not being able to go. I am sure they will give you a pass.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

Just a random thought:

This thread gets a bit more hilarious if you mentally prounounce duty as
"dootie". Good luck getting out of that jury crap :D

As has already been said, its very easy to change the date if its for jury duty.

I have done this numerous times because my work schedule is set up to six or more months in advance. I have contracts with these business and they have their own plans, so its not like I can just not show up. I usually just call the courthouse (number is usually on the summons) up and delay it for at least six months so I can schedule work around it.
