So here we are...
at the last day once more...
Duotrouble’s earlier post about picking a picture for the characters got me thinking about what was my own, personal, favorite picture of them.
Not the one where they looked the best…

or one that perfectly captured the essence of their character…
just my own favorite…

like the title of this thread…
And despite the plethora of pics

I have already plastered on these threads, I haven’t yet put those up.
For
Urahara, it would be this one:
He trains and prepares Ichigo and, via Yoruichi, Icihgo’s friends, then creates a special gateway through which they can enter Soul Society (ostensibly to rescue Rukia, but, unbeknownst to them,
really to get back something of his he was trying to keep away from that realm)
And after they pass through the gate, he reaches out and touches it…
and his hand burns…
because he
cannot go back…
And then you see this image,
with hope for their success, yes, but also with frustration at being left behind...
and all the longing of a man forever exiled from his home.
And for
Byakuya, it would be this:
It has not been made clear why Byakuya is so undemonstrative. The flashback episodes show his grandfather disapproving of his natural, voluble personality, so perhaps that is the reason why he suppresses it.
Or maybe he truly feels that it is a weakness that could be exploited by others, to the detriment of his clan or the 6th division, both of which he is responsible for.
But for whatever reason, Byakuya
will not show his feelings to others (which, of course, leads to a lot of misunderstandings and needless pain!).
With Rukia’s execution imminent, Renji heads out to save her, but as he does so, he passes by…Byakuya!
Standing at the top of a very tall tower, Byakuya’s face cannot be seen by Renji, so far below, and so he is free to let his emotions play openly across it.
And written there is the pain

of a man facing a fight he does not want to have, with a cherished subordinate
(something of which Renji is, needless to say, unaware)
over a rescue he himself would wish he could do...
but is bound by his own oath to thwart.
These deep, underlying emotions are what calls to me from these characters.
