We need some fresh blood...

Post by sailorsv13 »

I don't know if anyone has posted a topic like this recently, but I have been browsing around the usual cel dealers for the last hour and really, I'm feeling like it is time for some fresh blood. It seems like forever since a great new dealer site popped up, especially one that updates frequently. It would be quite exciting to add some fresh blood to my list of daily sites. Cel excitement for me these days seems to come soley from Yahoo! Japan, as that is the best source for new cels out there right now.

Anyone know of any new dealer sites planned? Or at least feel the way I do?

The problem is of course that there isn't much production material to go around anymore and what there often is lately is sketches. Sketches are problematic compared to cels because it's a lot easier for people who sell them to get in trouble possessing them (in Japan). I think that's one of the reasons some YJ artwork sellers keep changing their names.

I think it helps many sellers to sell sketches as much under the table as possible (or in person if possible). There's a number sketches I've never seen because they were sold in person or off-line. For YJ sellers I think it often works out better than websites because they might be able unload the material quickly. It's best to minimize unwanted attention. 8O

That was another problem I was thinking of today Keropi. Sketches from CG anime are in much more abundance than cels, and are the focus of many dealer updates. Although I like many CG, I don't really collect them. Although isn't it ironic? Sketches from my favorite CG Fruits Basket are scarce! I guess I'll just have to wait for beauties on YJ!

No, I don't sorry. :(

Sketches make pretty erratic appearances compared to cels. Of course that's not counting "the sketches that sit around forever with no one buying them" stuff.

I understand how you feel Bri. But my frustration is that the cel dealers I check out daily have alot of cels I want, but they are a little overpriced. So that annoys me cause they have them on their site for ages and no-one buys them for that reason, yet they won't lower the price :O
I would like a new dealer site to pop up that has cels at a reasonable price, so they don't need to have sales for people to buy from them.

I hear ya! Something else that dealers don't take into consideration is the flexibility of an anime. Something that's popular now may not be popular in 3 years, and although you may have paid $900 for that cel of Belldandy kissing Celestine, it may only pull for $200 on Ebay.

It's the market, y'know? *.*

For me, I don't necessarily need more dealers but more updates that I like or the cels I collect from. As for sketches, they're okay I have some but it's really a hit and miss and most of the time the ones I really want aren't even on YJ much less dealer sites. The cels that are overpriced, if I -really- want them I either chock up the price but that doesn't mean that I don't try to haggle with the dealer first. If it's really way overpriced and the dealer doesn't try to work with me, I go on my way, but that just doesn't apply to dealers but any other seller I think. I may however go back and try again, it depends on my current finances.

I can sympathize with a lot of posts here.  Some dealers have some nice cels, but those prices were probably back when it was so popular dealers couldn't keep the collectors off their sites! Times have changed though, and some of those prices I still 8O at.

A good example is YJ. Those cels have been brewing on the website forever...and never a price change. Actually when I looked at strike_vent's auctions again, they jumped in price from the last time they were on auction. I don't get it...if people didn't buy when it was a lower price, what makes him think that people will buy it now that he more than tripled his prices??? :hurt:

I don't want new sites, I want new cels!! And good ones at that!

It's so frustrating when you want to start on a new series, but they don't have anything decent, and it stays that way for months if not years. Anything good they DO have are arcinine prices. It makes me mad X|
