Cels that slipped through my fingers (GITS, Eva, Macross, +)

A place to post wish lists, ask for help with IDing a cel, screen cap requests, translation requests ... etc.

Cels that slipped through my fingers (GITS, Eva, Macross, +)

Post by Ghosty »

I was amazed at the high number of views to my posting about missing out on the Bubblegum Crisis (group Knight Sabers) OVA cel so I thought it might be a good time to post a note about cels I wanted but missed out on over the years.

I don't have piles of money lying about by any means, but I could dig deep if owners of these (or cels very close to them, possibly even different but equally great ones) might be interested in selling or in a trade.

The first image is just a stand-in for the hanken cel of Motoko that I saw at the San Diego Comic Con. well over a decade ago. I was younger so it cost more at the time than anything I had ever bought (about 1K). It was far out of my reach! I'll always wish I could have bought it! >_<!

Thanks for reading and may you all find the cels you are looking for!
Mark ^_^

You actually got to see that Ghost in the Shell hanken once?? Oooooh... Nice ^^;. Makes me wonder who has the one from the classic white bg poster (the "people love machines in 2029 AD" one)...

Good luck. :^^:

I think everyone has lost their share of wanted items, even if they managed to win the lottery and can afford to pay someone to wake up at 5 am to cast a bid on YJ. Sometimes things happen - the deputy service is down at the last minute, YJ acts funky, you forget to set your alarm clock, etc. and you lose out on the item. I know it's happened to me several times, and that's just on YJ/Ebay. Mandarake, with its habit of having items shoot up to nosebleed section-high amounts, is an entirely different story.

However, since I collect from animes that are favorites for many people, many of the items I lose out on end up in other Sluggers/Betarians collections. I don't want to make the winner feel bad over their win, and I feel that if I did make them feel bad, they might just keep that gorgeous sketch or cel in its itoya pocket forever. When I first opened my gallery on RS, there was a lot of bad blood inbetween the Sailormoon collectors, and, I don't want to see the environment like that again.

So, my advice is to check updates regularly on RS and your other favorite galleries. If you see something you like, be friendly and ask the owner of the item that, if they choose to sell it, if they could keep you mind. There's no promise that they will sell, or even sell to you, but it gives nice fuzzy feelings on both ends(because you located said item, and the owner knows that others appreciate their gallery and look at their items).

Thanks for the advice Cutiebunny chan! ^_^ I do regularly search certain sites and I believe everyone has a right to collect anything and bid whatever they deem appropriate in auctions or pay on any site. If bad blood started flowing here I would simply stop visiting/posting, so I do my very best to keep things respectful and friendly. That isn't just the best policy, that's the only policy logically. =)

I also like interacting with collectors and meeting people on here. Collecting isn't everything! That being said, I am interested in certain cels and if certain people care to sell certain ones, I'm listening. =) Those who wish to keep certain cels are more than entitled and I can completely relate! Everyone has a right to enjoy what they have paid for (and in some cases really struggled to obtain or afford!) >_<

Cheers! :cheers

That Asuka pan was on one of Mandarake's big web auctions a year or two ago. I believe someone from beta did end up winning it, but it definately went $2K plus.

I said they were cels I missed out on, not cels I could afford! >_< Heheh. I couldn't recall the final price, but I remember it was expensive... -_- and for good reason, it's a fantastic cel! not unreasonable! (Thanks for the info. Tabbykitty san). ^_^ I'd have to sell sell sell to pay that much and I'm not sure I'd want to tie up that much $_$ in one cel (unless it was the Motoko hanken... >=)

I really love that scene and I'm a fan of the Mass Production Eva model (and Sachiel, the 3rd Angel). ~_^

Just posted something similar to this on RS about cels I ended up regretting not going for.

There were a couple Macross cels I'm kicking myself for not buying on the spot that I never seen again. There was also a cool Gatchaman group shot form the original series that rarely ever shows up that I totally regret not bidding on.

Heck, there's even cels like Space Battleship Yamato that saw years ago in SDCC that I later found out were selling for x3 on eBay (I didn't know the series at the time), that I wish I bought so I could've flipped for more online to get more cels! :P
