Congratulations, klet! That is a beautiful cel + bg setup. I wish I could help you, but the last time I had my laptop "upgraded" by the local boys at the univ., they changed my software so I can no longer do screen caps from copyright DVDs.
But I can help to this extent: it's from ep. 48 (Sakura and the Awakened Star Key). The #40 refers to the cut or scene, and so it shows up pretty close to the beginning. (There are usually around 300 to 325 cuts in an episode).
In a nutshell, there's a magical rain falling on Tomoeda, and when Sakura tries to use her magic, she can't even get her key to transform into its wand form, so she can't use any of her Cards. She's pretty depressed about this, so Eriol (the new transfer student) cheers her up by giving her some flowers, then offering to walk with her part of the way home. This is, I think, when he meets up with her right after school. It's possible they used the bg twice, cutting to Sakura, then back to Eriol, in which case the studio usually tried to position the cel a little differently the second time so it wouldn't look like the exact same image recycled.
In fact, most CCS fans know Eriol is causing the rain, so his solicitousness is more than a little creepy, though in the end it turns out to be benign: he wants her to develop her own magic and not simply rely on Clow Reed's, and so this is the first in a series of challenges for her to overcome. |
Congrats again on a mega addition to your collection! I wish I could help more.
