I have to say I'm quite curious about this too as I arrive at x =1.

WARNING ! : under no circumstance should my result be seen as correct as I have been using forbidden dark math, astrology and some alchemy to get there, which has litterally cost me an arm and a leg and my cat's soul is now attached to the coffee maker.

I also hate the fact I have write an apology to the teacher to whom I said : I'll never have to use this ever again ! :x

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

You square both side and get:

2x - 1 = 16 + (x - 4) - 8(x - 4)^(1/2)
8(x - 4)^(1/2) = 13 - x
64(x - 4) = (13 - x)^2

then do the rest.....

Awwwwwwwwwwwww.... Thanks :) But if you give me real numbers instead of simbols, I start making mistakes :P :P

I prefer dealing with all simbols over real fixed numbers ;) ;)

Really, I cannot add real numbers /swt (all of my students know it too :P :P)

That isn't the first time I've made that mistake. See what happens when you rely on computers to do everything?

Hmmmm.. darn I knew how to do these problems eyes closed a few years ago.. sigh it's so impressive how much the brain forgets over time X| . Let me try to work these out for ya ^_^.

Edit: oooo Kittens is good LOL

2nd Edit: for the 2nd problem, wouldn't you just need to do ^4 on each and simplify?

STATS!! HE SAID STATS!! aaaaaaahhhhh :run

If I see anything that even remotely resembles a mathematical symbol my brain turns to curds and whey. Even though I know I can actually do the thing. It's called "math anxiety."
