Not sure but the design is simular as the Yugi Sakai sketches I have form Shakugan no Shana.

no idea, but if you ever find out, please let me know. I have a couple of book backgrounds that are almost certainly from the same anime. A takoyaki stand and some other stand.
Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

I don't recall the auction description having an anime title in it. I don't think the seller knew where it was from.
Did you get your backgrounds around the same time that was on Yahoo Japan? Did they come from the same source?
I'll try to let you know if I ever find out. It seems more like something that you'd recognize if you had seen the backgrounds first rather than it happening the other way around.

I actually picked up the backgrounds around 2002 or so while I was in Japan, from one of the shops in Tokyo. It wasn't in Nakano or Akiba - I think it was from Commit. They were in a huge stack of backgrounds, and the shop had no idea what any of them were from.
