Cel bag and cel book

Post by toolchain »

After reading this page http://www.nichibeianime.com/care.html i start searching for cel bags and a cel book on YJ, ebay and other auction site but i don't find anything.

The only things that i've found are theese:
cel book: http://www.nichibeianime.com/cels/celsupply.html
But they don't seel it separately

cel bag:
http://search5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/ ... 0jp&mode=1
http://list5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/20 ... 0jp&mode=1

But i don't know what kind of bag is needed to store cels (normal cels, from 6x6 to 7x7 inches)

Can anyone help me to find theese items?

Thanks

Itoya Portfolios seem to be a very popular choice for cel books, they're very sturdy!

I buy my cel bags (11" x 14") from www.bagsunlimited.com, they have many choices. Polyester/mylar is for paper and not gd for acetate.

I get my ringed Prat Start presentation books/ portfolio from dickblick.com. :)

Most cel collectors seem to favor this particular type of Itoya folder, since it comes in many sizes.

For cel bags, polypropelene is the way to go. They're non acidic and great for the preservation of cels. I buy my bags at Daiso, but if you don't live by one, you could always use their online site. Occasionally, they have them there.

For folders, I use a mixture between Itoya and the Polypropelene 'B4' size folders I find at Daiso. I store my backgrounds and sketches in those, while the cels I store in the Itoya folders. Itoya folders are expensive but they are well worth the investment. I used to buy the ones I needed on E-bay but as one of the photo stores nearby carries them, I tend to buy the 13x17 size there.

Thanks all for the answers! Regarding Itoya books, can anyone explain me the differences between:
Itoya Advantage series http://www.artprofolio.com/Art_profolio_Advantage.htm
Itoya Evolution series http://www.artprofolio.com/Art_profolio_Evolution.htm
Itoya Art Profolio Expo, Presentation Book: http://www.artprofolio.com/Art_profolio_Expo.htm
Itoya Professional Book: http://www.artprofolio.com/AP_Professional.htm

Because i've found all of theese books on ebay (11"x14"), but i don't know what is the best one to store my cels.

Towards the bottom of each listing, there's an icon for each quality that the folder has. I always buy the evolution series since they're acid free, lignin and PVC free. The other folders do not have all those features. All of my Itoyas are from the evolution series.

Itoya books last a long time. I would go with the 13x17 size if I were you. You'll have some difficulty fitting oversized artwork(like those with a background) if you stick with the 11X14 size.

But i've got a lot of cel in standard size, about 10"x11" (only 2 with background, and they are 10"x15").
The 13x17 is too large I think, i'm wrong?

I also get my cel bags from intenseanime on Ebay. This is a good topic to re-visit every now and then for new collectors and those with more experience. I might have to get myself some Itoya Evolution books now!

I have a related question: For those of you who own all of genga/douga from the same sequence, how do you store all of them?

But you do plan on buying more items in the future, right? So, for right now a 11x14 will suffice, in the future, you might need a larger folder. When I first started, I picked up a 11x14 and I found early on that it wasn't going to fit some of the larger items that I picked up. Eventually, I purchased a 18x24 Itoya simply because I acquired a few items that were about two feet in length.

Ok, thanks again for the help.
I finally decided what/where i'll buy my materials;
book: Itoya Archival Evolution Presentation Profolio (EV-12-11) : http://www.amazon.com/Itoya-Archival-Ev ... 595&sr=1-2

cel bags: http://www.wrbuste.it/wr_buste.htm (it's an italian site, maybe can helps other collectors from my country).
But theese bags are 'made with polypropylene and wth a low acid-release factor', so they are not completely acid-free!
Are theese good enough to store cels or i can damage my art with this kind of bags?

Your best bet is to replace your cel's bags every so often. The recommended time is every year, but I think most people, if they choose to replace the bag, do it once when the item arrives at their home and then a few years later.

For those in the U.S. try:
http://carpediemstore.com

Their Itoya products are 50% off. Unfortunately, they do not ship international.
