Fanartist who can retrace faded cel lines?

A place to post wish lists, ask for help with IDing a cel, screen cap requests, translation requests ... etc.

Fanartist who can retrace faded cel lines?

Post by crackpot27 »

Hello :)
I've come across a problem of line fading on a recent purchase and was wondering if there were any fanartist out there that did line retracing over top the cel. I realize this is kind of destruction in it's own way but the item in question's in a really sad state and I'd like to have it at least look as it was meant to. Would very much appreciate any help :D

Thanks,

Take a look here: http://pierotonin.com/celrestoration2.html

it's a professional restorer, maybe too expensive only for a faded line :^^:
but look his works, they are wonderful

If you want to go with a pro you might want to consider what GuyvarIII did.
Check his post:

If you just interested having it done by a fancel artist Amy (http://marie_vega.tripod.com/) aka Moonshine cels is one of the best I know that stayed around. But she is also a proffessional artist. Not sure if she still does fancels, but she is one of the fancel artists left that did or still does some really great works.
There used to be some others that were absolutely amazing with fancels and making new outline layers and restoring cels.
Like Baka Neko Fancels, Hyperenity, Imitation Animation and Requiem Art. I know most of those are gone, but not sure what happend to Hyperenity since they were up and then gone overnight. They sold once in while on eBay some of their fancels. Forkys Anime is also one I liked a lot, and not to mention KEEPER was one really great artist, too! Not sure which ones of those are still around though. It's been a few years since I had some fancels made.

I started making my own fancels back in 2002 and then since 2004 I kind of stopped. It was for me more of hobby (not to mention fun) and if I had the time I would give it a go again, but haven't gotten time to just sit to paint.

I made the names bold of the fancel artists that I'm not sure if they still around or not. The ones gone I left in normal text size.

These are the URL's of where they used to be located at or are but not much movement:

Hyperenity: http://hyperenity.com/

Moonshine cels: http://marie_vega.tripod.com/

Requiem: http://www.requiemart.com/index.html

Forkys Anime: http://forkysanime.deviantart.com/

Keeper site seems down. :(

I hope this helps!

The fancel artists above are the ones I used in the past and I seen their works with my own eyes, maybe there is somebody "newer" around that is good.

I recommend contacting Kagejin on this board.

She is a miricle worker. Ask her to show you what she did with my Nausicaa cel.

That's the only way I would go, if using a fancel artist. Otherwise value of the cel goes down in my opinion.
I personally would only have a real professional like the one that GuyverIII used actual fix outlines on the original acetate.

I've been meaning to get a few of these done as well.

Actually, a few of my cels had previous owners try to touch up the lines on top of the actual acetate. Let's just say that their hands weren't as steady as they thought they were. X| :l Main reason why I've never tried to touch them up myself. X|

Thanks for the rec! I'm still around, although for the past few years I've just been a shadow on the forums. I stop by maybe once a month to check things out. Anime (and cels especially) just isn't what it used to be ...

Yeah, I deleted my domain in 2007 so I no longer have any websites. My artwork is still on display at my Photobucket account though, and I do update with new fan cels (yes, I still paint) every now and then.

http://photobucket.com/albums/e318/hlwe ... an%20Cels/

However, I wouldn't tout myself for doing line re-tracing for the sole reason that I use rulers, curves and templates to make my lines. My hands shake, and you need someone with excellent free-hand work to do exact lineage over exisiting lines. Sorry, crackpot27.

Thanks for remembering me, Kata! :)

I'm a fanartist ( http://escafan.deviantart.com/ ) , but I don't want to take the risk to retrace the faded lines...

and I don't have the tools to do that I use a black permanent pen but it's not like original cels...

I think this thing must be made by a professional restorer
