Help with kanji
I'm thinking of purchasing an antique go board and stones. The bowls have some writing on the inside of them that I was hoping someone could translate. It may not be anything important, but I was curious.

Re: Help with kanji
There's so many different kinds out there it's crazy. So many different kinds of wood. I've seen nicer looking boards for sale elsewhere, but this one is in state and supposedly won in an antiques auction in japan. I would prefer lighter colored wood like others listed, but this one seems for affordable and maybe I could restore it??? I'm so torn. We'll definitely have to chat about it. I'll probably be texting you.

Very awesome! I'm a collector of antiques as well ^_^
Depending on the wood, you can probably make the color seem a little lighter. Sand the outside lightly with fine paper. Then, apply a very very light coat of flax seed oil to it. Do a little more research for possible solutions and find out what kind of wood it is before you go a head with it . But that's what I would do. Make sure you send me a picture when your done GoldKnight!

Re: Help with kanji
I can't really see the writing on the other lid, but the one with the close up has "kuro" (黒) in kanji and then "black" (ブラック) written in katakana I think. Underneath it says Itou, in kanji (伊藤) and kana (イトウ). I assume it's someone's name.Goldknight wrote:I'm thinking of purchasing an antique go board and stones. I'm guessing the other lid says white (白/ホワイト) on it.

Re: Help with kanji
Thanks JC! I really appreciate it. I'm still not sure if this is the set I'll buy since there are 2 others that I'm also interested in. Each is a different wood.
