Would like help identifying ssj2 gohan cel
Hello everyone, its my first post on anime beta! I'm fairly new to cel collecting so i dont have a gallery yet.(hope to get one up on rubberslug here soon once i get my hands on a better scanner)I'm trying to figure out what to label this beaut when i get around to making my gallery. I think its gohan doing the standing kamehameha when cel shoots one at the earth. Checked out the screens from the show though, and this shot was blueish from the sfx so i think it must be from a promo image?
Also, does anyone know if this pan cel has ever popped up from the trunks ova? this is stitched together screens from the show. This is my dream cel right here! All help is greatly appreciated!

Either it's commercial or fancel. Hanken cels don't have sequence numbers and I know it can't be from the regular series. The artwork is nothing like the episodes. The coloring also seems too crisp to be production from the series. Just my 2 yen.......

I'm still confused though. That's a poster which would mean hanken, but then why does it have a sequence number? And what of the other characters? I've never seen DBZ hanken cels with layers. They're typically all on one layer. Hmmmmm I still say fancel of the poster you just showed.

That bites if it really is a fan cel. Is there any way to verify whether it is or not? The points you made make sense, but the quality seems really high for a fan cel to me? i havent gotten this in the mail yet, but ill check the colors against the poster for any notable differences(thats the only thing i can think to do which is usually pretty obvious on fan cels) thanks for all the help goldknight.

Fancel. Compare some of the shading from the hanken to the cel that you bought you and you'll see it for yourself. Case in point - look at the top palm and the shadowing effect. The shadowing in the cel that you bought looks far more clunky and it does not match up to the one in the hanken.
While some hankens do have some numbering, it also looks like there's the usual production holes that most production cels have. I haven't seen any hankens that have those.

It saddens me to say that you are absolutely right cutiebunny. I finally got it today, and its much easier to tell in person the differences in the shading in some areas, as well as the big difference in colors used(checked it against a red background like in the poster to get a more accurate viewing of the colors). I'm guessing that it is indeed a fancel. My last hope is that it might have been a color test used in the making of the hanken. Might such a thing exist? despite the colors being off, this thing looks to be pretty old(the cell has many fingerprints and light scratches suggesting its been handled quite a bit) and in person, the quality of the cell is even more apparent. If it is a fancel, then the maker is quite skilled.

Color test for a hanken? Possible, but not likely. Madhouse did a number of hanken test cels, but the problem with your theory is that there would be no sequence number if it were indeed a color test. The fact that there's a sequence number on it sorta screams someone was knowingly trying to sell a fan cel as the real thing *sigh*. It happens often enough
.
Also, the sequence number is oriented totally wrong for the orientation of the image. I've never seen a real production cel that was vertical with a horizontal sequence number. They are usually written at the top or bottom of the cel in the same orientation as the rest of the cel image.
Just my two yen, tho

I recall seeing that cel on ebay last year. If anything, you could talk to the seller for some kind of compensation for cost since he/she did advertise it as an authentic cel.

Basically your case is going to rest on being deceived. Read the auction again. Does it state that the item is a fan cel? Does it state that the item is a production cel?
If the item says that it was originally used in the making of the anime, then, you have a case. You can file a claim with Paypal by stating that the item was not what was described. You'll probably have to write a good paragraph or two stating that the item is not a production cel, and perhaps include the image of the poster that you put on this thread. Paypal then contacts the seller and tries to resolve the problem for you. However, I believe there is a time limit on all transactions (30 days?) so make sure you file your claim with Paypal asap.
