ID Help

Post by KinoLRB »

Recently added two Detective Conan cels to my gallery, but I don't know which episodes they're from. If somebody knows, that would be awesome. Many thanks in advance. :)

(not sure if the BG is matching on this one, though it seems to fit extremely well)

Any notes on the cel or bg like "43-117"? That could be an episode + cut identification. That has worked for me more times than I can count, especially with series that I have not watched from start to finish.

Thank you, Sensei. :) Sadly, there are no identifying marks on either background. DC used cels up until episode 284 I believe, and both of these pieces fit the art style of the later episodes, so I guess that's something to go on. The series is just so long, and I've been skipping the episodes that don't interest me or progress the characters or story line in any way. On the second cel, of Conan holding the bars, the cut reads 706, which leads me to believe it's from one of the TV specials or perhaps an OVA, since most anime episodes are roughly 400 cuts. Guess I'll have to backtrack and try to find them, if nobody knows. Getting into this series was quite the tall order. Overwhelming to say the least.

P.S. Thanks so much for the nice RS feedback. I found it in my spam folder yesterday. Feedback sure has been acting weird on RS.

Writing my response gave me an idea about the second cel, which it turns out came from episode 128, an 1.5 hour long TV special. The background isn't matching, but it matches the cel nicely. Yay! One down, one to go.

Congrats on getting both ID'd. In my opinion, knowing the context adds a lot to the value (personal, not resale) of the setup. So I appreciate your determination in hunting them down. I still have a few Hyper Police items that haven't been placed, and your quest makes me the more anxious to get them pinned down.

In my experience, a typical TV episode had about 300 cuts, sometimes as few as 275. I have seen some that have gone as high as 360+ cuts (CCS Ep. 69 is one), but none that hit the 400 number. The 2-hour-plus film A Tree of Palme ran past cut Cut 2118; other films may have gone higher but that's hard to determine as normally they used the scene + cut numbering (S. 12 c. 30), and Toei used this numbering format even for TV episodes as well.

So when I find a cel that is identified by cut but not by episode, I do what you do: quickly scan episode after episode around the section where it should come in. A cel from a Cut 150 should be right around the eyecatch, for instance.

Good luck and thanks for the updates. Sorry about the screening of RS feedback, but unfortunately there's not much Nick can do to prevent spammers from using this method to send solicitations to view child pornography etc. That makes them suspect with many email systems, sending them to Spam on arrival without screening their contents. On Beta, spammers can use PMs to do the same thing, but admins have the power to terminate them, all their posts at once, as soon as they are identified. But with RS, once spam is sent, it's your email program's problem. (I have a gmail account that I use for only a few things, and that has the best spam filter, so I use that as the destination for RS feedback, remembering to check the spam file every two weeks or so for real messages.)

Thanks Sensei. :) You guys were a great help. I'm a stickler for needing to know the cel's context, not just for my own piece of mind, but since I like to organize my cels by order of appearance. It brings a greater context to the gallery. The cut number is an excellent guide (though I don't know why I thought 400 was the average) and it was the key to ID'ing one of them. That, and Conan's outfit. It's just such a long show, and the prospect of going through each episode is overwhelming.
