Quitting cel collecting but then coming back

For the n00bs of cel collecting and production art . . . and for some of us old-timers, too. Post your questions on anything that puzzles you.

Okaerinasai! This hobby is so intense that it's natural to have 'ups' and 'downs'. It's pretty hard to keep up the buying spree if there are no gd cels available or if reserves are dry. I took a hiatus of 3 yrs then came back with a vengence. Now it's slow again....i think. Yea somehow it's like a drug, even when I'm not buying I didn't forget abt my cels and as time pass, the urge creeps back again without warning. :)

I have abt 4 'yes' to sensei's questions..yeeks

Personally, I think this is a bit of a silly determination of being "addicted" to something. [snip] The question really should be more along the lines of: "Does it cloud your whole day/week/month or make you want to kick your cat, etc...?"
Agreed: IMHO the test was based on psychological standards that were generated by observing people with physical dependencies (alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, caffeine, etc.). In truth, such people's body chemistries adapt to the addiction in such a way, that when one stops using the substance, then a physical withdrawal reaction starts. People who have gone through "nic fits" know this process well.

But an activity like social networking or a hobby like cel collecting generates pleasurable body chemistry reactions in a different way. I'd guess through a learned process of bio-feedback that generates endorphins in various pleasure points in the brain. (Though it is odd that high-end MKR cels always hit me right in the solar plexus rather than between the eyes.)

Stopping the process is irritating, just as being prevented from watching the end of a favorite show or exciting sports contest by a blackout is maddening (or, for that matter, being sniped at the end of an auction). But I don't think this reaction is a sign of an "addiction." Just acetatus interruptus. :evilblk

I just came back from a 4 year hiatus from Cel collecting (was in school during the time). Kinda wish I didn't leave, lost many opprtunities to obtain cels I wanted during that time.

I've been trying to cut down just because of money and school. The best thing about cels is that they will be around in 2 years! By then, I will have a job-job once medical school is over. But, I hear ya. It is oh so addicting, and expensive!

LOL, Everyone is so funny ^_^

I took a two year break cold turkey, but kept all of my babies ^_^ And it was probably the best thing I ever did. It's made come back to the community with a more positive outlook.

Although I have to admit coming back after such a long break, ended with a very LARGE shopping spree. I'm still shaking my head over it...
