2K for a fan cel? o_O

Huh. I was looking at this for a while - it's really gorgeous. Unthinkable
as far as buying goes, but the seller is listing it as an original production cel.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

But:
-There is no cel number
-The cel seems to be signed at the bottom right hand corner (by the artist who did this fan cel?)

A fan cel? If so, why do they think they'll get 2K for it? And why is it being auctioned off as an original production cel when there's evidence to the contrary?

Thoughts? Input?

8O Thats hilarous Roboflonne!

As far as the thread goes I also saw this cel yesterday. It looks amazing but regardless if its production or not its not worth that price. I have seen some oversized cels that are cut so its possible its ligit. Either way I highly doubt they will get any bids as the cel in question is possible (at best) worth 1/4 that price. It is a very nice fancel/production cel though.

Thank you for your interest in my auction. Since the cel is over-sized it has no reference holes on either the top or bottom, and also no reference numbers unfortunately. No A,B,C and #, but is most likely a key cel from the amount of detail. I had always thought it was used for a singular zoom shot, (I swear I had seen it used on an opening or ending in that fashion somewhere),or if not possibly a promotional cel made by the studio for a magazine cover, poster, Video jacket, ect. But it is an authentic cel - ever so slight line fading and paint-work hold up under the closest of scrutiny - that's why I bought it in the first place. I have pan-cels from Plastic Little (the highly sought after nudes) that I bought from a well known dealer that also had no reference numbers, and reference holes on the bottom, but were all together with others used in that OAV at standard sizes that had them. He kept a lot of cels from that batch for himself - I was lucky to buy any from him. I could take some more close-up shots of the cel if you would like, to show the minimal fading around Kei's eye, and also the back of the cel too. Just let me know and give me an email address to send any picture requests too. Hope this answers your question. Thanks again for your interest.
It's a $2000 cel! You should atleast know if it's used in the opening or ending or in that fashion somewhere! Why is it that I don't believe him?

He didn't even mention the (seemingly) artists' signature at the bottom right o_0

Asked this question and got a responce.
Q: Hi, In the pic the cel appears to be signed in the lower right corner. Can you tell me who signed be it the key artist, director or a voice actor? Thanks, jwr10x

A: Yes, there is a small signature from a voice actress I believe, but it would either be a French or English voice-over, so I didn't think much of it when I purchased it. It is rather small and out of the way and says, "St. Manning 1990.10" which I remember was when the person I bought it from had it signed. Since it was a foriegn voice over, I didn't give it much thought that anyone States-side would care. And I know this cel was done by the studio and not just a really old fan-cel of some sort - which is why I bought it after close scrutiny. The signature in no way interferes with the cel at all in my opinion. I often forget it's there. Lol. Thanks for asking, I hope this helps

Anyone know a fan cel artist by that name ? I know there was not a VA.

St. Manning

I have a Dirty Pair cel also done by St. Manning, dated 1990/7/20.
I bought it at AX a year or two ago, it was billed as an Animator's Pin-up Cel. It was much MUCH less than $2K.
I've also seen three or four others by the same artist, all Dirty Pair. Delia Noonchester had a few, I think she still has one left.

Not a production cel, but either an animator doing some fan work, or a really nice fan cel. You be the judge! :D

I've got one. They were given to Delia as a gift from the studio is what she told me.

So, they've been dubbed "Studio Gift Hankens." Mine does not have a signature, however.

$2k for that is waaay overboard. I paid $300 for mine I beleive. I would say fan cel by a very talented studio artist...

Hmm... So that's around $18-$30 of Ebay listing fees wasted... /pif

If you get it knocked off ebay he'll get an ebay refund. I say just let the auction end. No one will bid for that price.

This cel was actually put up several times a few years ago for $350. I almost bid on it but thought that $350 was too much for a cel.....(little did I know that I would spend more than that on individual cels a couple years down the road X| ) Anyways, at that time I sent a scan to Yann at Animanga and he took a couple days to look it over and he said that he was pretty sure that it was a fan cel.

Sorry I'm late for this.
Seller

Thats a joke right? ^^
All those Pan(Vertical or Horizontal) cels from Plastic Little I won for my friend the past few years have those holes and IDs.
Also there is one from Elysse that shows up from time to time on YJ and also this one has holes and a ID.
There was an artist outhere that drew fancels from that show and they don't have any holes and IDs but they look nice.
So it looks for me he is trying to sell fancels as real ones.
