What is your definition of a "wishlist" cel/genga?

Constantly I see individuals stating that they have acquired there "wishlist" cel/genga but I am curious as to what actually constitutes as one (in your book). Throughout my first year of collecting, I have amassed a fairly sizable collection and I would say max 5 pieces could actually called "wishlist" in my book and actually only 1 if I use a different type of standard. The broad sense for me that constitutes a wishlist is a cel/sketch that I see in another's gallery and from that point on I have the mentality that "That sketch needs to be in my gallery". Using this approach would state that at the current time I have about 4 "wishlists". However If I where to only consider "wishlist" items as ones that while watching the anime I thought "this would be a kickass piece to own" and then go on to find the piece a few months down the road. Using this definition I would say I only have "1" wishlist item and the rest are simply pieces that are my top favorites. So all in all I am curious as to what constitutes as your "wishlist" cel/sketch and really what type of requirements is set on an item to be eligible for that title (so to speak).

When I first started, I was very specific. My wishlist items were exact, I wanted the exact cel from an exact scene of an exact character at an exact angle. It was rare to find such items, of course, and very frusterating when one did pop up in someone's gallery, especially if it was a person who was absolutely anti-sale and anti-trade.
As time went on and I got more familiar with the nature of this hobby, finding cels from the same scene or sequence began to satisfy me more and more. Eventually my wishlist became 'this character' or 'this episode' and less 'this very moment', and the collection expanded. Of course, there's still a few 'this exact moments' on my wishlist, but I mean, that's what the wishlist is for ;P
A good example of the change, I guess, would be something still visible on my wishlist. For a very, very long time I've wanted the panning shot from Trigun episode 17 of Rem giving Vash his haircut. That exact cel was circulating the internet around 2002, but I never got my hands on it, and haven't seen it since. Then, this popped up -
http://labinnah.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... mID=217192
Not the exact cel I was looking for, but a wonderful peice from the same scene. And ya know what? That's great, and I'm satisfied. I'm not taking the panning shot off of my wishlist, because someday I'd still like to find that cel, but to me this is just as good, I no longer feel like I'm 'missing' that part of my collection.
Really, that's what the wishlist comes down to, I think. It's peices that we want that'll make our collections feel more complete. I can't speak for everyone, of course, but after talking to so many other people, that's the best conclusion I can come to.

A wishlist? I don't really have any scene in mind, I just look for a character....If I picked a certain scene, I know that it would take YEARS to find it...So do I have any wishlist cels/dougas???
Now that I think of it....no (but I am getting one WISHLIST character for X-mas all thanks to a very good friend
-That will probably be the first wishlist object that I get....
-The rest are just my favorites...I tend to just find a character and then that second I want it and then I buy it....Then I add it to my wishlist....
-Wait...now I confused myself
-Okay, let's see...A wishlist is an item that I REALLY want and that I have been searching for a while....yeah..that's the def.....
-But then when you find an item and at that second you see it, it becomes your wish..is it wishlist??? or just an impulse buy????

For me wish cels are exact cels from your favorite scene from favorite anime with your favorite charactors in it. I have a wish cel which was extremely expensive (b/c it was also a wish cel for many ppl

)
Right now I have several wish cels and I know who own them (one of them is my friend in Japan). So I am patiently waiting for it is coming out

A wishlist is a grouping of a specific character(s) engaged in a specific scene, not necessarily an exact sequence number. Usually having to do with an extremely poignant scene to me. Said cel would most likely have been something I just kept thinking about over and over for a long time...
EX: Galaxia as Chaos vs Serenity from the last episode where the blade that is Chibichibi is shattered.
Or: Starfighter with her long hair whipping out protecting ESM from Galaxia.
Sketch - Fighter protecting ESM from Stars; specific characters in specific scene, in a specific angle.

A wishlist for me means an image from the anime/movie that has stuck with me from the first time I saw it. There may be great shots I want and fortunately acquire but there's always that one image that stays with you and makes you fall in love with the anime/movie, that's the wishlist cel for me.

Mine would be from a favorite scene from the anime or just the ultimate perfect cel of my favorite character(s) from the series.

when i acquire a cel that has been on my rubberslug "wishlist", i'll describe it as a "wishlist" cel in my gallery. my wishes haven't really changed all that much over the years~ since i began collecting, before i had an RS gallery, i have been eyeing the same cels/scenes to add to my collection. i figure, its the same for most collectors? no?
(i also describe some cels as my "dream cels" which are cels i never would have *dreamed* of owning or existing, not even by wishlist standards...)

Wishlist is any cel that I took a mental checklist of...whether it was on sale previously, in someone's gallery or something I saw/ remember while watching the anime. My wishlist is quite undefined, sometimes I do have particular scenes but then, there are so many other scenes which are very desirable too
For me, wishlist = dream cel

My definition is similiar to Caroline's definition. A 'wishlist' is a certain sequence that, for some reason or other, has stuck itself in my mind. It's always hard for me to pinpoint my choices - some wishlists are character expression/emotion, others feature a high degree of artistic caliber and still others just drew me in due to the execution of movement or the colors used. I suppose that I might cheapen the term 'wishlist' due to the amount of sequences that I would love to own cels from. I even go further by catagorizing the 'wishlist' status by those that are a lower degree wishlist(ie. from the sequence I want, but not necessarily the angle) to a higher degree wishlist item(ie. desired pose but non-matching BG or unfavorable angle with matching BG).
I hope that made sense....
Then, there's the 'dream' cels - cels that, for me, was something I was likely to never own due to the art demand from that particular anime, character or sequence..basically, cels that I'm still in shock to have not only seen, but to have residing in my collection. These cels generally have original matching backgrounds and full layouts.

If I can remember the exact scene, episode and emotion when looking at a cel, and it just happens to ALSO be a favourite character, then to me it qualifies as a wishlist. Who wouldn't want a cel from a scene like that?
Probably less than ten cels in my collection are what I would consider absolute "wishlist", and only four I would certainly think of as my "dream" cel, which would be a very, very precise scene. (Evil Tamahome, bloody Suboshi, Tasuki/Miaka summinging Suzaku, and a certain new acquisition coming my way... )
Of course, that doesn't mean I don't love all my cels no matter the scene or character, cause I do. ;) I bought them for a reason, after all.

Interesting topic. I've been mulling this over for a while now. I'm more general on my wishes simply because it's easy to satisfy me and most of the time it works out for me since I tend to like either expensive series or hard to find series . LOL... For example one of my wishes is to get a romantic cel of Hikaru and Misa in my price range. I have a specific scene in mind but I'm more flexible about it since I have price restraints. I also have wishes like I want one very nicely drawn cel of Nuriko or Chichiri showing their outfits... Or just a cel of Soujiro from RK or a flying 80s Astroboy. I guess I define my wishes as something I want fairly strongly, they are always at the back of my mind but they tend to remain wishes because I can't find one that fits my eye and my wallet at that moment. Either that or I just can't find them, like PlanetES or really nice Voltes/Daimos cels....
Now I do have dream cels in mind, specific scenes with specific characters, not necessarily a perfect shot. For me they must be iconic and usually they are accompanied by great dialogue or have a very deep meaning for me. An example of this would be a flying 80s Astroboy from the OP or ED, I don't remember most of the eps from Astroboy but the OP and ED has stuck with me up to now... A shot of a
Prince Ulrich absolving himself, has very great meaning for one of my most favorite anime... Or some of my Saitou cels that shows important relationships, like with Battousai,
with Okita, with Eiji... Or just very revealing moments for the character like at the
end of Kyoto, end in Seisouhen. In all cases they may or may not be expensive but with my dream cels price hardly matters unlike my wish cels. There are exceptions I may already have dream cel and a better cel is out there, i.e. Saitou OP in anicyo vs my
less rare OP but since I already got what I need and the prices for these dream cels are prohibitive at times, then I will choose to pass.
So in summary wish cels for me are typically cels that I have wanted fairly strongly but with a set "reasonable" price IMO while dream cels tend to break the rules for the awesomeness mentioned earlier.... Hehe is that a word?

But for convenience sake, like when I'm posting an update announcement, I just label some of my dream cels a wishlist.

Hee hee...I've been lucky enough to acquire several of my wishlist cels. Even my Ultimate wishlist cel.
It's weird. i know several people have tiers of wishlists. My ULTIMATE wishlist cel is one that I don't care what I had to sell to get it, or the amount of money I would spend. A cel that no one would ever be able to buy from me...Hmmm...That brings up another interesting question. I 'll start a thread on that...
It's one I've waited years to obtain. Brought tears to my eyes when getting it and seeing it...a cel that means something personally to me, and one that I can stare deeply into all day and get lost in...
Although I have several wishlist cels, there are only a few that hold "ULTIMATE" status:

Interesting question. The answers are also very interesting.
I kind of have a two tiered wishlist. There are a few that I would love to have and would pay an insane amount of money for. This list has gradually shortened over time as the cels have been found. I am willing to wait for years for these cels to appear, even though many of them will probably never show up.
The rest get referred to in my "other" section. Those are cels that I would like to have to round out my collection. I would pay well for the right one, but I am not going to just jump on any cel of that particular character or scene.

Premeditated searching and purchasing... Cels that are not bought on a whim but sought after. That is my definition of a wishlist cel. Not all cels are like this... there are a select number that I search for and hope to surface so I can snag them and I am willing to pay a good amount for them.
If i take a screen cap of a cel I want i try to go after that exact cel. Some of the cels I like have good sequence mates though so those do. especially for OP cels and etc. Alot of my wishlist cels are A1 End cels though. @_@
