Sequence number question

Ok, I'm not a newbie to cel collecting, but on one of the cels that arrived today, the sequence number is D8, and then there's a circled G after it. I've never seen that before. Anyone know what it means?

Can you post a pic (or scan) of just the sequence number? Based off your description, I'm guessing that what you have is some messy handwriting that is supposed to be a circled E, which would make your cel an end cel. But if you could post a pic, we'd be able to confirm that hypothesis.

It COULD be an E, but it really looks like a G XD Although since I know that sequence like the back of my hand, it could very well be an E (but I usually see END written out...ah well).

I've seen End, E, e & "end" written in Japanese. All depends on the animator.

I guess I'm just not used to seeing the "E" on BGC cels -- I usually see END. The only different animator I can think of for BGC ep. 5 (the episode the cel in question is from) is Masami Ohbari, but he did mecha, and this is certainly not a mecha scene =P

Yeah, it's cropped at the top so you can't see it, but yeah, Sonoda probably would've done this, not Ohbari. Like I said, I'm not used to seeing the "E" by itself, and I've never seen that or END circled, either. Guess you learn something every day

Well, in anime the acutal painting of cels was often outsourced to other companies (and sometimes even other countries

), so Sonoda or Ohbari probably had nothing to do with the marking of your cel. They probably worked on the genga or possibly the douga. Then, the sketches would get sent off to another department/company/country to be run through the machines and turned into cels.
As I said, though, we can't be too sure of what it is unless you post a pic of the markings.
