Signings

OK, I hope this is put in the right place.. I think this is more a question of preference but I was wondering something. When getting a signature from the voice actor of one of your cels, do you have them sign the acetate, the sketch, or get an extra sheet and have them sign a blank one to keep with the cel?
Does it depend on how much you spent on the cel in the first place and does the signature up or down the value?...sentimentally it's great but I also don't want to ruin anything.

It is your cel... so you should have it signed where ever you want.

But... if you ever end up selling the cel... it may bring down its value. I would get the signature on a separate layer of acetate that you can put with the cel if you wanted to. Some people either flat out like signatures on the cel itself, and others dont mind but it depends on the signature. I have never bought a cel with a signature on it... and I have seen a couple that I liked but passed up because of that. I dunno... thats just my two cents.

My Two Cents:

From my own experiences, if the signature was from the creator of the series or the person who did the character designs, it may actually increase the the value of the cel.

People who have nothing to do with the creation of the series will most likely decrease the value of the cel (examples: voice actors, studio execs, translators).

I would recommend for voice actors to have them sign your DVD or a seperate sheet instead of the actual cel.

I would recommend purchasing an extra piece of acetate and using that for the signature. You can purchase them for pretty cheap on E-bay. I'd especially recommend a seperate sheet in the case of a signing by dubber's voice. Typically, those signatures are not as desired as those by the original seiyuu.

I'm with others here. Get an extra piece of acetate for them to sign. Personally, I would just have them sign something different altogether but if you want to display it with your cel an extra piece of acetate is the way to go.

For me, signed cels aren't worth 2cents. They are ruined pieces of art since the signature wasn't there when it was animated. It's different in terms of fanart since it was never used in production. Besides, signatures are personal memories of you meeting the artist. Why would I want someone else's personal memories? :?

Well I'm one of those people who like signatures on the actual cels or sketches. Just cause I like em like that. But I do believe doing so does lower the price of the items. Although that doesn't matter if you never have any intention of selling the signed cel or sketch. :P If your worries about lowering the price I'd go along with everybody else and say get a black piece of acetate or just get them to sign something else. :D

Another option is to buy a less expensive cel of the same character (if available) specifically for the signature. If it's a cheap cel to begin with, the signature won't affect the value as much.

Thanks, that helps allot!!! I couldn't decide but if it end up in a museum somewhere, I think it's best if I get a different item to sign. I don't always mind signings but in this case it would probably not be the best idea. Thanks again guys!!!
