Is my DBZ cel also a hanken?

It was definitely used in the series, i've included the screencap on the cel info, but it's also used as the image for Dragon Ball Z - Fusion: The Last Saiyan (1996)

I don't think I would necessarily call it a hanken. Hanken are created specifically for use in creating a promotional item (poster, pencil board, etc.) Rather, the company used the screen grab of the scene that was made using your cel to create cover art. Doesn't mean it isn't awesome though!

Welcome to Beta! It's always great to find something like that. It gives you a real sense of pride, that's a fantastic cel of Vegito you have as well.

But yeah as mentioned before I'd have to say not a true hanken but it's certainly very cool. I have a Super-Saiyan 3 Goku which is a key cel and I think the only one in the sequence and when I find that image around the internet it always makes me smile to know I have the original shot from the anime.

I'd liken your situation in a similar way to how you have true OP cels from the japanes opener of DBZ but then when it went across the shore they made their own OP to "Rock The Dragon (quite catchy to be fair) and just recycled cels from the older DBZ movies like 1-3. However at the very end, there are still some cels that are OP's that were used in the original OP created only for the OP.

It's very cool that your cel was used for some video cover art I think the best way to determine if it's true Hanken/OP/ED etc is that they're created specifically for that purpose and aren't used anywhere else.

I won't re-iterate what the above folks have said, since they're quite right, but I did want to add that it IS exciting to find your cels used in various places! I've found a number of my Gundam Wing cels featured prominently in art books, on DVD jacket art, trading cards, etc -- and while they aren't hankens, it's awesome to know that that particular moment in time was important enough or looked good enough that they chose it for a purpose similar to a hanken . It's definitely an added bonus!

Thanks guys! Love this community. at the moment I'm in Japan and haven't found any Genga and I'm so frustrated! Want to bring my bro back something cool! think I might give him the dbz cel if I find nothing here. Been on his wall since beginning of summer. Actually zerospace it's hanging next to a setsuna layout you sold me.
