Cleaning Cels?

Post by Kasi »

Hi there,

I'm wondering if there's any totally safe method of cleaning dust off celluloid? I have a few cels with minuscule dust and dirt particles to the surface, but I have just left them as is since I know nothing about safe cleaning methods. I think this freebie I once received shows off what I mean very well: http://parade.rubberslug.com/gallery/in ... mID=266442 or too well, honestly my scanner picks it up far more than is visible to the eye.

Also, does anyone know what kind of approach to take for cleaning off excess paint? Paint that has stuck from one cel onto another. Some of my 1980's cartoon cels have this, obviously they were not stored too well but it's hardly surprising as they're relatively cheap to collect. I was thinking of cleaning off the paint, but how? I'm not sure.

If any of this is too risky, I'll be leaving everything as is.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Thank you very much! I thought there would be some old topics before, but I must have chosen the worst keywords in my searches.
