What would this be classified as?

For the n00bs of cel collecting and production art . . . and for some of us old-timers, too. Post your questions on anything that puzzles you.

What would this be classified as?

Post by theultimatebrucelee »

This is a really thin layer of paper. The lines are obviously that of photo copy and are pretty rough, but I think the color markers are used to apply colors on it, as I can see from the front and back. I have seen some production material for a PC game done this way, I believe they are then scanned in and used for in game scenes, but this doesn't have the kind of art style. Anyone any idea what this is and how it should be classified as?

So the lines are on a separate layer, like a cel layer?

It almost looks like a harmony cel...

The lines are on the front side of this piece of paper, but they are copied lines and not hand draw, kind of like a photo copy of an original sketch. But the colors seems to be shaded in with markers I think. The two scans are the front side and back side. Sorry if my description was misleading(edited) lol

Don't know, though it does seem the same principle as a harmony cel, except that it is all on paper with no cel overlay. It is extremely pretty, though! Congratulations on getting it!

I agree with CB that the style of it looks like a harmony cel. I don't own one myself, so I can't say how they are usually done, but I do have a piece of artwork that was done a lot like yours:

For that, it's all done on a single sheet of paper that appears to have been a photocopy of a hanken rough sketch that was then colored with markers, as you can see the marker bleeds through the back of the paper.

Thanks for the input guys!! It seems that zerospace has an item closest to this. Still not sure what to call them but it becomes not so big a problem if no one else know either :D

Yeah, usually dislike cutesy stuff myself, but for some reason was attracted to this one. Apparently, its from Battle Athletes.

Ah okay. I can see the Battle Athletes lines now that you mention it.

Congratulations on acquiring it.
