I finally did my storage solution

Post by LWK »

I had this idea for a storage solution and finally tackled it today. I have some Itoya 11 x 14 albums. My original landscape album I am not gonna use, gonna buy one more standard album and do this same method with my remaining cels. I dismantled a old computer desk ages ago, and kept the steel rods. I took the rods to my grinder today and cut them the size of the top of the bins edges, so they'd make it across. I also polished up the rods and rounded the edges after flattening them. They are more or less even. I then took a remainder of the rod, and a sterilite bin, and I heated the rod on my stove, then melted the plastic to fit these rods. Since they are the same rod, its a nice fit. I cut away excessive plastic with a razor blade. I also changed my cels so they are going down towards the bottom of each album page. I took the center of the album, you can see the gap if you look at any album. I placed them over the rod so they hang free in the bin. I may add backing boards later to increase flatness... I can upgrade the bin for 2 more rods by following the same type of method. My concern was curling, but having the cels go downward should prevent that, and it's way better then before where I had them stacked. Also, the lid secures right over them no problem. This offers a safe non air tight, dust prevention clean environment set up. Air can escape the bins, but without effort, it's not going to bring unclean air in.

Good idea, I've thought about doing something similar with my binders. Like hanging them on a rod and trying to make some sort of stand/bookshelf thing that might hold them like that. I have 9 binders and a couple of those profolios so that would take a few bins if I were to try it sometime lol. The hanger method in the closet just wasn't going to work for me. Mine are all standing upright on a bookshelf right now.

Very cool idea! I like how you can pick up the whole thing and move it without bothering your cels. Thanks for posting this!

Wow what a fantastic idea! I did something similar but made mine out of wood into a frame. Yours looks so much more stable and protected! Definitely going to give this a go. Thank you :)
