Cel stuck to background, anyone remove successfully?

For the n00bs of cel collecting and production art . . . and for some of us old-timers, too. Post your questions on anything that puzzles you.

Cel stuck to background, anyone remove successfully?

Post by sunny »

Does the misting / leaving it by a open window work for a cel stuck to a background?
Got a cel stuck to a non-matching background so I do not care if the background gets destroyed.

There are many threads about removing sketches successfully but haven't seen any for backgrounds.
The paper is thicker and there is paint compared to a sketch. Or is it the same?

It depends on how badly stuck the background is to the cel.

You can also try the freezer method, where you put the cel in a Ziploc bag for a couple hours and then start to pull things apart.

Usually, it will take multiple days of doing this...and in some cases, if the background is plastered to the cel, it won't work at all.
