One big problem with Animanger was that you weren't required to login to post. So it was very easy to post anonymous flames there with no accountability at all. Well...almost none I mean. At least a couple times Yann knew who the troublemakers were because of their IP number. Those nutholes were not as anonymous as they thought they were. Like some people have stated earlier, a lot of those crazy posters are here now. It's just that they are on their better behavior, using alternate names or they're not posting here (only reading).

I appreciate what Yann did there and I appreciate the Keep Track thing that he let us use. I don't use it very much anymore because there aren't but maybe a couple of online dealers listed there that have things I'm interested in.

I'm glad the archive is still there. Since some of things I try to get are so unusual, it's nice to be able to go back and see some of the posts people made many years back. It's an information resource for me and it lets me know what was out there six or seven years ago that are not around now.

I must admit I started off with Animanga/Cels.org and just didn't care for the vibe at all. The listing of sellers and the "KT" were the only real reasons why I went back... and would occasionally lurk on the forum, only posting when absolutely necessary.

Of course, that was before I got the tip about this little slice of heaven. I feel like this is more of a community instead of a mere message board. Most of my information comes from Beta and the bookmarks I've saved from linking around cels.org.

I don't think Beta should end up taking that mantle, if that's even a consideration, should Yann decide to give it away.

I don't frequent Animanga, but it's a shame to let it get so neglected.

Let it be

Post by metheus »

I vote to just let it be. It seems to be the nature of the web. Shirows vast sea of information is anything but constant, things come and go. Sort of like life, some people are met in passing, some stay for years, in the end all things fade away though. Anyone remember the "Internet Guide to Anime Cels?" It was my favorite resource, when it became neglected, Yann stepped in and filled the gap, course his message board was there through out. He posted an updated set of directories, added keep track, and more. Time passes, his attention has moved to other things. Some where along the way the Deputies came along, Beta popped up, Rubberslug exploded.

I'm not worried about the communities future, we're bigger than ever, and somewhere someone's working on the "next thing," and it'll be cool to see.

I locked a similar thread last week.

http://www.anime-beta.com/phpBB/viewtop ... 8&start=15

As I said there, I don't have a problem with rants or discussions about sites or businesses that mistreat people, but I draw the line at naming individuals directly. I don't want to see Beta and it's members known as a bunch of trash-talkers and have sites or businesses start the wholesale banning of anyone who is a member of Beta because of threads like this one.

On this note....Goldknight was working on a link page like the one mentioned in this thread a few months ago. Maybe if we bug her nicely, she'll finish it and get it posted.
