But it may have problems with some .mkv encoded vidz. I've had problems playing 5 or 6 anime with this player as it sometimes crashes when the subtitles are turned on. This happened again today which is why it's at the forefront of my mind.
I doubt it's a problem with my hardware configuration even though I know I'm pushing my CPU and Graphics card at times ;)

To be sure of playing all your vidz, let alone taking screen caps from them, I'd reccomend you have at least 2 or 3 media players on your computer with the latest codecs.

after step 2., you can set your crop tool to 640 pixels wide, 480 pixels high and 72 dpi (or whatever dimensions you require). then apply it to your picture. you can also save and name these crop settings so that next time all you have to do is open the image, choose crop tool, select the preset and crop accordingly. voila!

um, won't it just crop (cut off) the picture down to that dimension insead of resize it? or am I missing a funciton of crop that allows you to do this? hmm, might have to try this method when I get a chance :)
Miz cucky wrote:yeah so for just looking at a pretty picture, I've never had to resize anything. So it depends on how you capture it i guess.
depends on what you're using as a source material and how it's accessed - if its from dvd and you're doing a screen capture by hitting the 'print screen' method or something similar, then no, most likely that image will be properly proportioned. If you're using an AVI / MKV or other downloaded type source, then no, you don't have to do this step either regardless of how you capture (because these sources have already been resized to the proper proportion).

if you use dvd footage and use something that accesses the actual source video data (such as virtualdubmod or most software dvd player screencap functions that I'm familiar with), you will have to resize because the video image data has not been adjusted for play on your computer screen (and hence, you get the 'wide-faced' look like the first image in my previous post).

If I can find a copy of PowerDVD, I'll give it a try and see what kind of image I get out of it :)

hi buma,
my apologies. i mis-read the intent of what you were trying to do. you are correct, what i wrote earlier only crops to those dimensions. it does not re-scale to those dimensions like you were explaining earlier. if i find a "lazy" way to do it, i'll pass it on. 8) sorry for the confusion!

Thank you Lemar!

I've downloaded that program.

I thought there was something I didn't know about the built-in DVD player on my Mac.

Thank you for the info too Krafty, if I have problems I know it may not be my fault.
