I've never had this sort of experience but I feel so sorry for anyone who has. It's a tragedy to get your hopes up on a wishlist, only to have it lost in the mail or the seller rip you off. Truly awful.
I've had about 300 sheets of production artwork get sent to the wrong person, while I received a pencil board. n.n; lol. Things were eventually fixed though, since thankfully the other recipient was honest.
I'm glad it was a simple matter. I've done this often enough when I had two things to send two different people. It only takes a moment of confusion to slap the wrong labels on the right packages.
