Joe, from the first page:
Submission info -

1) Only one entry per catagory is allowed by any entrant.

2) Maximum pixel width size for all standard size cels/douga/artwork is 500 pixels, 600 for all pan/oversized artwork. You may submit artwork that is less than this pixel size, though. Regardless of the size of the item, the total file size can not exceed over 300k. Standard size artwork is roughly 11.89 inches x 9.5 inches (302mm x 241 mm), while a pan or oversized item is much larger than this standard.

3) Artwork that has received a Beta Award in previous years can not be submitted under any catagory.

4) Unless there is an obvious difference, sequence mates in the same catagory are not permitted. Whoever submits the artwork first will be allowed to use that artwork in that particular catagory. If you manage to submit a sequence mate to an item that is already in that catagory, you will receive an e-mail and permission to enter another item in lieu of the repeated piece. This applies to all types of artwork.

5) While you are permitted a total of 8 submissions(5 in the standard catagories and 3 in the optionals), you are not required to submit eight different items. You may enter less items if you choose.
If anything is unclear, let me make a quick summary here. There are really only 2 rules with regards to image sizes:

1. A maximum width of 500 pixels for standard size cels, and 600 pixels for pan or oversized cels. This means you may submit your images UP TO and including those widths. Anything exceeding them will be automatically resized by the awards site.

2. Files are to be no larger than 300k (that's 300 kilobytes or 307200 bytes). Anything larger will be automatically rejected.

Thumbnails will be created by the site and will be 150 pixels wide and clickable (full size images will be displayed once clicked). The reason for this is simply to keep page load time to a minimum--we have enough dial-up users that we want to keep overall page load times reasonable. If you have a high speed connection, the site will allow you to select a group of images for comparison (so you can view all the full size images on one page if you really wish).

On a side note: I am about to approve all the test entries so that those who are helping test the site can help test the viewing and voting functions. My apologies for the delay--the testers helped me fix a few bugs (special thanks to bulleta, beatrush, killua and syan for helping to find the biggest bugs :friends:). Anyone who submitted test entries will be getting an email stating that their test entries have been approved in the next day or two. After that, you'll get a PM from me with view & vote testing instructions. :)

Once we're done testing, the site will be opened to the public ;)

Thanks Zerospace.

It was not clear as to the creation of thumbnails which was the responcibility of the person submitting artwork last year.

Something I want to clarify before I make assumptions and get myself DQ'd: for pan/oversize cels, does it HAVE to be a scan, or is a digital photo (resized, obviously) okay as well? Because I have a pan cel I want to enter, but between its size and the location of my scanner, it's literally impossible to scan it, even in pieces. I have it uploaded to my RS via a digipic, though. Would this be allowed despite not being a scan?

Places like FedEx, Staples, etc. will oftentimes have a scanning service for large items. It's not that expensive. But personally I think a pic would be fine.

There have been digital pictures in previous Beta Awards; they were present in 05, 06 and 07 contests. I'm sure as long as the image meets the dimension requirements, you'll be fine. But to your advantage, the nicer the picture the better your chances, so be sure to get the right lighting

Ditto on what WC said -- I certainly wouldn't pitch a fit over a digital photo as opposed to a scan. After all, we all know how much of a pain it is to scan very large items. ;)

I couldn't see this mentioned anywhere, but what are the allowable specs on the animated gif entries? Like pixel size/file size?

They are the same as for all other entries--maximum of 500 pixels wide (600 for pan/oversized) and under 300k.

I think we'll be going by Pacific Time, since both cutiebunny and I are in that time zone ;).

Ok..

The official submission period will begin on November 14th at 0000 hrs PST. At that time, you will be able to log into a website where you will be able to upload your entries.

The submission period will close on November 18th at 0000 hrs PST. Any entries submitted to the site after that time will not be accepted unless the entrant submitted artwork that had already been earlier submitted by another person(ie. repro cels). We will notify participants who fall under this catagory prior to the voting submission period.

I would stronly urge all participants to have at least one back-up entry in the event that another participant submits a sequence mate or the same repro/rilezu item.

OK, I've got my submissions ready but had a thought about the shikishi entries.
Is it possible to include a small annotation alongside the piece to indicate the artist/character/series? It's near impossible to identify these little squiggle signatures so I'm positive that having a translation & series name would be useful.
