Submitted!
Wow. Took much longer than anticipated to decide and round up stuff for rescanning. Good thing I had the animated sequence done a few weeks ago. Otherwise, I'd be giving up on that. :P

Waaaay past my bedtime. :hurt:

AWESOME submission pages, like last year's regular awards: quick, easy, painless!
I particularly enjoy the thumbnail preview! Just in case, don'tyouknow. Getting awfully late, bleary-eyed, unsure if I hit the right one...
SO nice to be able to double check.

I'm all excited! I want to see everyone else's entries!!! :bny

I should know better to write in the morning, but I figured that the question, if possible, should be answered prior to the beginning of the voting period due to several submissions that we've had.

If an item features a character from a hentai anime or hentai scene but there is no nudity, random body fluid or body parts flying about, do you feel that it should still be considered hentai or should it be placed in the appropriate non-hentai category?

We're basically talking about characters who are blushing, with a shocked expression and/or their mouth open - stuff that, if you were unfamiliar with the anime, would be just another PG scene.

I realize that it might be difficult without seeing the artwork, but, if possible, I'd like to come to a decision about this before we begin the voting period. I'd hate for these particular pieces to not be voted on simply because they would have done better in other categories.

Since both Killua and I are in disagreement with how to handle these pieces, we both feel that the the decision should rest with the participants.

My thoughts -
As the contest is about purely judging the piece for its aesthetic quality and how well it represents the category, the storyline should not be taken into context. If a particular piece does not exhibit any of category's qualities, it is less likely to be favored by voters.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Oh, and all submissions received prior to 5:20a have been approved.

Here are the categories with too few entries so far:

Background/Layout
Children
Comic/Manga
Creature
Embarrassed
Fan Art
Funny
Heroic
Insanity
Joy
Outfit
Robot
Sorrow
Storyboard
Villainous

A number of these are at four entires so far and so are on the cusp. Please keep the submissions rolling!

I agree with this sentiment. ;)

Wow, killua... that number of categories has significantly dropped since yesterday afternoon, that's GREAT! :)

I think they should, especially if they're not explicit. It can be put in the same context as the villainous category where the voters are judging the character looking the most villainous at the moment rather than if the person's evil or not in the series. Also, if I recall, non-explicit hentai cels were submitted in other categories before.

I think they should be left in that category and judged as is. Just my two cents.

I agree. The sketch should be viewed as a stand alone image. If the charaacter has a shocked expression, but is from a hentai series, it should be able to be judged in the shocked category.

Oops. Perhaps I should clarify my above statement: ;)

I see no harm in leaving the pieces in the category in which they were entered unless they blatantly do not represent the category (e.g. nude hentai art in .... say... the joy category =P). After all, that's all part of the game, right? As entrants, it's up to us to select pieces to enter that we feel best fit the categories. If the voters determine that the piece does not properly represent the category in which it was entered, the piece simply will not receive many votes. I'm not sure it's really up to the organizers to make subjective judgement calls like that--their main job is to determine that a piece meets at least the minimum requirements for entry into the category selected.

Just my two yen. 8)

On a side note: I'm glad folks like the site this year. I greatly improved the capabilities of it--sadly, most of you won't see that since it's mainly on the back-end. :) You will notice some nice changes for the voting part though ... at least my site testers thought they were nice. :sweatdrop

Worst case scenario, You could probably move one of my submissions into the creature category if it needs a boost.

Made my submissions the night it opened. I'm inclined to reuse my 'magnificent stallion' comment on Zero again, but she's heard that one before. I'll come up with something.

Also, just for the record, I also feel that non-sex-scene cels that came from a hentai shouldn't be forced into the hentai category. IMO they ought to be submitted to the category which most fits the subject of that particular shot.

cutiebunny - I agree with your sentiments regarding the hentai submissions.

If not all categories fill, will we be allowed to submit a 6th piece?
