It's pretty much a three way tie between Inuyasha, Berserk and Yu Yu Hakusho. And as far as being my favorites, they are in my top ten somewhere near the top.

Genga would be a whole different story.

My most expensive series would be Who Framed Roger Rabbit but I'm hoping that'll change in the next few months.

Expensive cels.

Post by alyssium »

In terms of cost per a single cel Evangelion and Ah my goddess (those angels can get expensive!!!)

In terms of most expensive series; Ah my goddess due to sheer volume (there is certainly a deposit for a house amassed in that collection) and Sailor Moon (the popularity of the series drives the prices up!)

Regarding Sailor Moon, you've to focus first on native english collector huge demand. This is what can be called "regionalization", meaning that one local market create this over value.
See in France the cost of Saint Seiya compared to the amount of collector (90% of french collector, but only 4% of global RS demand).

My most expensive is an Harlock OP, only justified by the fact that I seeked it for 10 years, and that the price was not took into account in this purchasing decision.

Mass demand pushes prices up, but is it a reflection of a "local" demand, or the reality of a "global" demand. In such condition people can easily place order in non popular anime countries, and arrange sales in the place where this "local" demand is high.

Those kind of aspect are drastically studied io my coming thesis (4th quarter period 2009). I've already a deal with a Californian translator to turn it into english, may this interest fellow collectors ? (just to plan translation costs)...

Haven't been on the forum in awhile, but I'd like to contribute to this thread.

As for most expensive cel (counting hankens), it's an AMG cel framed and hanging on a wall downstairs where there is no sun exposure :)

As for a series, it should be fairly obvious... Card Captor Sakura forms the preponderance of the collection.

Okay...that was a little weird. I'm not sure why it quoted my old post, but I meant to say that it has been very fascinating seeing which series people have spent the most on --- in many cases, I would not have expected it of that collector. Great topic!

On impulse...it used to be my Bleach Ed from pS2...something I regret since It was 3X what I usually spend.

However..collectively (and taking into account all the insane amount of deputy) It is now Ouran Host Club.....Of course..that is for the Objects collectively...

My most expensive single item? No clue

Wow I really had to think for a lil bit to figure out
which items hit the marks :hurt:

My most expensive items are tied
between a *gouache shikishi painting
by Rumiko Takahashi
and one of my Ranma 1/2 hankens :)

Cel senpai's is (surprise surprise)
Lain in her brown beanie from Serial Experiments Lain
:D

My most expensive is a Ranma cel. Not the most valuable, just the one that I paid the most for. ;)

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

My most expensive cel is from Berserk. The show (from 1997) is only a little over a decade old, so it’s a new show :P .
Though nothing comes close to the cost of the Berserk cel, my Five Star Stories cels are consistently more expensive
than most of my Berserk cels. Five Star Stories is from 1989, which is about the right vintage for an Anime in my collection 8) .

Neither of these Anime are my favorite (that honor goes to the Guyver OVA)
… but both Berserk and Five Star Stories are expensive to collect from.

My most expensive cel so far is from Esca. Depending on the exchange rate, my newest acquisition from One Piece (a repro) may come out to be a little higher. Regardless, I bid the same amount on each one. :)

Thus far, my most expensive cel has been from 'Fate/Stay night' - a risque' shot of Saber:

http://celsphoenix.rubberslug.com/galle ... mID=267793

At the time, it cost over AUD1,000 (not including deputy expenses, postage etc). But had grab it, first time I had seen a Fate/Stay night cel up for auction on YJ.
Nearly missed it too, as the auction ended just after midnight, New Years Eve local time lol. I was at a friend's place and had to ask if I could use their computer to watch the end of the bidding :P

Most expensive (and favourite) series though is easily Escaflowne, which I have started to acquire some beautiful pieces.

Hmmm I think the biggest single pop would have to be my VPM OVA of Lemures in his true form. Yeah that one was a biggie.

I think overall the biggest offenders would be a contest between the Miyu's and the Angel's Egg cels. I try not to think about it :wow:
