Question about WB seal

Post by dark-water-dragon »

I have a question about the WB seal on production art. First of all how important is this seal? If there is no seal does that mean it is not authentic? For example if Batman and Batman beyond have these seals and a pieces if for sale that does not what is the likelihood that the piece is a production cel, or were only some pieces given the seal? How easy is it to fake the seal? These are just some questions I have. If someone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

I do not know much about WB cels as I do not collect them. But, I have seen quite a few original production cels without the WB seal. My un-expert opinion is the cels that were originally sold through the WB store had the seal on them. But, it is also common/not unheard of for original production art to be kept by the animators or given away as gifts to people, and then later on get sold.

Disney did this all the time.
For example, when the Disney Art corner store was still selling original production vintage art, you would receive a gold COA seal on the back from the Disney Art Corner store for original production cel (ie Lady from Lady and the Tramp), whereas several original production cels were not sold through the Art Corner store and did not have any seals, but are 100% original production.

I agree with Star-Phoneix, I have many Peanuts cels and drawings some have the "Peanuts Seal" while many do not. The ones with the seal were sold from the Peanuts Store. The ones without the seals were most likely sold by animators, relatives or even...gulp..stolen. As far as worth, I honestly don't think it matters. In 1965 the Peanuts Store wasn't even around but people still pay up to and over 10K for a Charlie Brown Christmas cel.

How does that WB seal look like? Anyone have a link to a photograph of it?
