Phew. That was ugly.
Anyway, I voted for memories, because I generally go that way. I've got lots a crappy little cels that I bought strictly because I loved the scene, or the show in general. And I would NEVER pay $500 for a cel that was gorgeous if it didn't hold some special meaning. (faint echo here of the screams from my dying wallet)
But I obviously go for beautiful art that I know nothing about, too.
Blue robot face? Lady all in pink tones? nary a clue. And I've only seen ONE episode of Mon Colle Knights, but I truly love its cute characters...what I know about the story came from reviews

There are alot of cels I have seen that I thought looked really cool/beautiful, but I still passed up on them since I'd rather go for cels from series that I love and know about (But I'm still kicking myself over a Kare Kano cel I saw on Ebay awhile back for cheap...I wish I liked the series back then!

So yeah, I'd go with the cel for a memorable moment. The only cels I collect are Yugioh, and those are very rare to come by so I hoard whatever I can!

Easy decision for me, but I know I'm in the minority. I went for beauty.
I love cels from moving or special scenes, but I generally don't buy a cel from even my favorite scene unless the cel itself is aesthetically pleasing. In fact, several of my very favorite cels, (ie: both my Souzo cels, a couple of my Aoshi pan cels, quite a few of my Kenshin cels, several FY, GW and Esca cels, etc) I had ZERO idea where in the show they were from when I bought them. Or perhaps I had a general idea from an outfit or something, but couldn't identify the exact episode, let alone scene.
Beauty it is for me. I'll always go with the perfect portrait of a character I love over that B level shot of them in one of the best moments of the show.
Of course the ideal is the perfect shot of them from that moment, but duh.
