Picky or not?

I'm a 5, and would have gone higher if I could have.

I wasn't when I started - I bought a lot of different stuff, some just on a whim, some because I liked the colors, and I'm really happy to have done as well as I did.

But now I'm at the point where I'm really only looking for specific characters or scenes or shows. They're not necessarily high end/nosebleed cels, just that I'm looking for a rather narrow range of cels, and as I find them, the range gets narrower.

Of course that doesn't rule out the occasional whim purchase . What would be the fun in that?

I went from a 1 to a 5-Im still weedin out my collection and few cels catch my interest enough to buy them, I like to look and not touch mostly. I only have 3 big wishlist cels, 1 of which I have (Chu/u drunk) and my AFGX and YYH collections keep gettin smaller and smaller. Gundam 08th MS Team is about the only series I aint picky about.

I'm medium. I have a lot of cels other people would pass up, probably C grade cels... which I got for various and sundry reasons.

I love em anyway.

I'd prefer the top notch ones but I'm not rich, so...

Exactly the same as me...it all comes down to money and I am not always at liberty to be that picky with what I can and can’t buy…but I'm currently training myself to be better.

I used to be more than happy to have 5 or 6 lower grade cels than just one perfect one, but looking at everyone elses collections made me realise I really need to subsidise and save to purchase a cel I truly desire...I mean not all my collection is obviously like that…and I am happy with what I have so far! I just know I’d be happier with getting those extra special cels! So I guess I'm a two or three maybe!

I'd say with cels, I am a #5 when it comes to being picky. I have slacked off a lot when it comes to sketches, especially since they are much cheaper in price (in general, hankens and Naruto don't count. ).

*sniff*... I always feel so... inadequate!! when I read the "I'd rather have quality than quantity" posts.

Not that I don't understand what you mean, mind you. I'd rather have quality than quantity too... but given the way things have gone I have both, with emphasis on the quantity part.

I'm a ninny, though... whenever I read that I think "omg, they're talking about my pitiful collection!!"

I wish I were more selective, more restrictive in my collecting habits, but I'm not. I rated myself with a 2 because I won't buy just anything,(although it may seem like it with my collection of eyes and hands ) but I won't pass up something I find pleasing to my eye, or something that makes me smile and remember a scene.

Now, who's the other 2?

Overall I count myself as a 3, midway.

If I like the artwork regardless of series, character, pose etc I'll go for it, which would make me a 2. Some of the series I collect are rare and sought after and I therefore try to buy what I can when I see it so that would bring me down further on the 'picky poll' rating.
However it's balanced by not buying EVERYTHING I see and I'm usually turned off by art in poor condition or C-grade cels.

When funds are as tight as they are right-now, you'd be surprised at how particular you get about the artwork ya buy. :)Condition has to be almost perfect; if it's a cel, I want a sketch; it has to be a character I've been looking for from one of the few shows I'm collecting from right-now; composition must be superb. . . . .

I'd consider myself a 3. I'm fairly picky when it comes to which shots I want of certain characters. But if I find a cel that catches my eye, chances are I'll probably go for it

I found i've grown kinda picky in my cel purchasing, even though i dont' really have the money to be picky. I"ve passed up a couple of 'rarer' cels form OLS i've seen come to sale in the past few months b/c i just didn't like the shot, it wasn't 'ooo' to me. now whether the shots i love others concider being good/primo or whatever... heck i dunno. but i was going to rate myself a 4 b/c of this... then i got to thinking of the batch of cheap-o cels i was gonna buy from Earth's Defense Family... once i get some money back in my account and pay of those I owe for cels. They are prolly freebie cels, but, i love the show (most reviews i've seen are bad, but it makes me laugh), and i want cels from it - which don't seem to show up often. =\ Soooo i dropped myself down to a 3.

Well, I had to ponder this for a while, because in some ways we are a 4 or 5 but in terms of the specific series we collect, it is more like a 2 (if we see something that we like, we buy) so I wimped out on 3. I think we do tend to find extra nice cels of individual characters, but sometimes a cel where something interesting is going on is cool too. Series-wise, we have collected some pretty odd stuff, but generally great examples of that odd stuff.

I'm not going to vote. Like a lot of you, I play my own way. I like good shots of my favorites, but am less picky about supporting content. Supporting characters, sketches, backgrounds, & etc., I look for and as long as they fit my taste they don't have to be grand. I feel along with the good shots they round out the collection. The book definition "nice" cel is ok and all, but why not a few action shots, maybe a SDF, a character being moody, etc to show a wider range of what a character or show is like.

Also, being picky will only get you so far, many cel choices require fast decision making, 3 minutes maybe to much especially the way you all seem to watch for updates constantly
