Some are very very well done.. like the ones in Ms Poe's gallery.. /no1
but they are just not my own cup of tea. :shrug

If I wanted the scene badly enough, I'd probably just whip out
an illustration board and my acrylics and do a painting of it myself

In the end, I prefer production artwork/repro/rilezu's much more
than I would fan-made images. But that probably has alot to do
with being already trained I shouldn't be so lazy as to
make someone else do what I want lol :rollin

I have two fan cels that other people painted; one by Darkside Requiem (Gwen) that's amazing, and a wonderful one by Bakaneko Fancels (Lia). The one from Gwen I commissioned, the one from Lia was the prize for winning one of her art contests.

I've also painted some of my own. I paint them for my own enjoyment, just because an image or character caught my eye. My favorite one, and the one I think I painted the best, is the one of the Dark Magician attacking the Red Skull Dragon, because I own the sketch I used to paint the fan cel from. It was much easier with the production sketch, rather than just a screencap, to paint the cel.

I assure everyone that there is no way my amateur fan cels would ever be mistaken as production art!

Kitt, your cels are far from amateurish! I think they're fantastic!

Thought about getting a few fancels made. I'd like a couple of cels based on Ninja Scroll characters (since I know the production art doesn't exist).

Another would be a hanken-type cel featuring two guys from different anime- Jotaro Kujo from JoJo's Adventure and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.

Two things have been holding my back- the fact that they aren't REAL production art which detracts for me and I haven't found an artist I can trust to do a good job. The cels I'd want done have a specific style and I don't know it it can be replicated by someone who doesn't 'feel' that style naturally. Know what I mean?

Fancels

Post by Blackmegabyte »

I did not care about Fancels when i first started collecting. I didnt think all of them were drawn too well-- but they are a LOT cheaper!

Ive bought only one fan cel so far and that was because I felt I would never actually get an actual cel from the scene that it impersonated. Also I have a rough douga of the actual cel so I felt they complimented each other. http://blackflame.rubberslug.com/galler ... esID=17164 Im starting to get more interested in fancels because though they were never used in the production of the series--- if you find a good enough artist you can get exactly the kind of cel YOU want of the ppl and/or places at a much reduced price...
A great artist can make your favourite character look TOOOOOO cool.... Im a dilandau fan, what can i say? I feel like commissioning a good fanartist right now to do one of Dilandau in full gear w/ a grand evil smile, sword in hand, standing over a fallen, bloody pair of wings....

:evilblk :evilblk :evilblk :dsmoke :dsmoke :dsmoke :dgrin :dgrin :dgrin heeeehheeeeheeeee!
Uh--- no offense to Van fans!- :emb :emb :emb Im just illustrating how you can do things in fanart cel that dont neccessarily apper in the series...
Keep on keepin' on Dilandau.
