My biggest regret? Easy. On my rubberslug page under LoGH there is a an opening credits sequence with various ships and laser effects and stuff. It's gone. Somehow or other, I managed to accidentally leave it behind when I moved home from Japan. I had hundreds and hundreds of cels I was bringing back on the plane, but that one set didn't make it into my luggage. I imagine it was thrown away by the BoE when they went into my apartment and got rid of all the stuff I was leaving behind for the next JET to use. It was a good $100 set, and impossible to replace.

My regrets all come from my early days in collecting when I thought that $200 was too much to spend for a piece of plastic. There are a couple of cels that were at Taro until Jenn decided to give them a home and one closeup of Van and Dilandeau that I have never seen again. :(

Last summer an Inuyasha wishlist popped up on Yahoo Japan. I gave a kidney for it and decided to sell most of my other Inuyasha cels on Ebay to help cover the cost. I had them up for bid once and no one bid on them, so I put them up for bid a second time with very low starting bids. They all sold at an insanely low price: like under $30 each. They were really nice cels too, one was a sketch of human Inuyasha.

Last fall someone put a lot of Chipmunk Adventure cels on Ebay to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the creation of Alvin and the Chipmunks. They had low starting bids, but they all ended at times that were really close to another. I was anticipating getting into some bidding wars so I only put bids on four of them. I won my four, but the others sold for almost nothing and I wish I would have bid on more of them.

Also there was the original storyboard for a whole episode of Sonic SatAM that I passed up. There was the cel of Nicodemus from Secret of NIMH holding the necklace that I passed up.

Oh and a couple of months ago I hastily put a bid on an All Dogs Go to Heaven cel through one of those live auctions. I placed it before I saw that the auction house takes like a 25% commission and charged $40 to have it shippped. Of course I won that auction...

And I learned a lesson recently regarding four damaged Gay Purr-ee cels. I will be posting the story on that pretty soon....

But you know, you live, you learn and slowly you become a more savvy collector!

Mine would probably be not joining the fun soon enough.

Out of curiosity I checked 'closed auctions' on Ebay for Berserk cels shortly after coming into this hobby and saw an amazing cel from the first episode. I had missed it by no more than 5 days. :l

I'm still crying today.

TV Van from Escaflowne with his wings out going to rescue Hitomi. It sat on a dealers site for a decent amount of time, but at that time, it was pricey for me. :l I know which gallery it's in, though I'm not sure if the owner still collects, or if they really still own him.

Also, TRI (of Trigun)- at the time I didn't have any of the others so I didn't think much of the auction to bid. :bwall

How many of you guys recall the artwork you seen from an anime that was available for sale/bid before you wanted to collect from it?

About the only artwork I can recall seeing for sale before I wanted to collect from them are:

1. The pieces from anime I watched some of, but at that time I didn't want to collect from the show. Later I changed my mind and wanted to collect from it.

2. The pieces I seen from anime I hadn't seen any of yet, but I was aware of the anime from other means (such as exposure to the manga or because I read discussions of the game).

I don't like collecting from anime I haven't seen any of. If I run across something good between the time I'm aware of the title and the time I watch some of the anime I'm in trouble.

The only reason I know for sure that I missed out on good opportunities to acquire artwork from Doukyuusei 2 and To Heart is because of #2 and #1 respectively. I seen some nice, cheap background artwork on YJ from both anime before I wanted to collect from them. :(

i think all of my regrets have to do with not bidding high enough. this past month i was bidding on an auction that got sniped from me in the last second. my internet was down during the last hour, so i was actually at kinko's paying good money to use their computers so that i could bid. i'm sure it will be a long time before i ever see another auction like that. :/

My biggest regret is...to have started this hobby at some point....and then to have stopped it.

Buying the first one... now after several years I would need AA (Acetate Anonymous) if I were to ever quit!!

On a serious note, it would be my first sold cel. I did not know what I had at the time. I won a five cel lot years ago which had included a gorgeous cel of Ryu from Argento Soma. I would have kept him but immediately after winning a fellow collector contacted me asking if she could purchase him. Elated after winning I agreed, almost immediately regretting it. I regretted it even more so after having seen the anime, the scene is now on my wishlist. I know who has it at least... though sadly the new owner is not the best of sellers.

My regrets seem to mirror many others comments. I wish I had started earlier and realized how much I liked CCS. At the time I was very much into Magic Knight Rayearth (still like it however :) ). Some of the best CCS cel artwork was coming out late 2001 and early 2002 because of YHJ changing it's bidding policy to start charging for reocurring postings. At the time I did not realize the rarity of some of the omake and opening cels that made their way to the market. Of course, none of those are to be found now. There are several individual cel auctions that I have regrets about, but I've made up for most of them.
