I do this all the time. In general I collect cels for their artistic value so that means I end up with a lot of OOH PRETTY! purchases. However, If it's a series I can find and watch I usually do. I am inclined to spend a lot more money on a show I have seen as opposed to one I've not. As the most expensive unknown I've ever purchased was $100 as opposed to the thousands I've tossed towards some cels from my favorite shows.

Actually I just did about a week ago. I was bored and typed in "anime cel" on ebay out of curiosity. I happened across this head shot of someone from fortune quest. Never seen the series, and I can't find it either. I also happened across a great cel from GTO w/ background but got outbid.

Just one: Maison Ikkoku. That was based purely on my love of the manga. But this will change as I've recently purchased the complete box set of the anime. Just waiting for some free time to come my way.

Just kidding. The prices have been going up of late so don't be surprised (I hope I wasn't the one that outbid ya)

I also have some GTO cels, couldn't resist some of them. Although I haven't watched the anime yet, I was inspired to grab some after watching the live-action film some years ago.

Similar to Metheus, I think 1/3 of my collection consists of series I haven't seen.
Rather than being strict on myself and only buying artwork of characters I recognize (which is limiting), I am drawn to the art itself and not necessarily what it represents in the context of the anime. Thus, I'll acquire anything that catches my eye and will attach my own meanings to it.

I have yet to buy art from a series I havent seen. I have come close many times but figured that I would get in the habit of doing so and end up with more art than I would want. There have been a few pieces that have lead me to watch the series just because I liked the artwork.

Well I haven't purchased one that I've not seen, however there are a couple of series that I bought cels for but not have fully finished watching. I'm not a big advocate of buying cels I've not seen no matter how pretty it is. I consider buying cels in such a manner, at least for me, an impulse buy. So one cent I spend on shows I don't know but look nice, is a waste to me as I could've used it to fund other more meaningful purchases that satisfies both criteria. Sure it may look pretty but nowadays I channel that fund into something that I truly love, *cough Saito, RK, tadao nagahama*. But that's just me... I'm usually broke so I can't just go buy every cel that appealed to me artistically, it must also have meaning personally.

I've not been able to find the anime of this to watch, but after I got the cel I picked up some of the manga of this title.

I haven't *bought* one, but I've received a few as gifts. One I have no idea what series it's from, as it was a freebie, but the other is from Tenshi nu Narumon.

I have some cels from series I've only seen a -few- episodes of, such as Digi Charat (I'm a sucker for pretty boys).

I have never seen YAT! Anshin, but I bought a cel of the show because it was cheap and looked cool 8) I'll probably never get to see it since it hasn't been fansubbed and isn't on DVD. Oh well :(

I have in the past, yes.

I bought those two before I had ever seen Tenshi ni Narumon. I just liked how they looked, and they were extremely cheap. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't, just because I find buying from series I don't adore isn't nearly as satifying long term as buying from those I really love. In the end, it was a passing fancy and I rarely look at them.

Yes, I have quite a number of cels from shows I've never seen. I don't collect cels solely because they're from scenes of shows I love, I also collect for the sheer artistic beauty of them.

And I eventually end up seeing most of the shows anyway.

Sometimes an image just grabs you, but unfortunately I still don't know what this is from so I can watch it. :?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
