Congrats to all the winners! /no1

A suggestion for next year :x

Make a new thread when it is time to submit and when it is time to vote. The entire competition got buried in the original discussion thread and is virtually impossible to decipher if you do not read it regularly. Thanks for everyone's efforts. 8)

Good thought. ;) I do want to say this though, folks ... the timetable was posted on the site and in the first post of this thread. Yes, it was altered slightly, but only to extend the voting period. I believe it is not only the responsibility of the organizers to clearly post the timetable, but also for the competitors to check back in the official contest thread for updates. ;) We organized it ... it isn't our job to babysit and make sure you do your due diligence as well. Plenty of folks who never even posted in this thread managed to log in and vote.

W00T! Grats to everyone who won!

I also have to tell Zero and Cutie that they did a great job on the site and putting this thing together. I didnt list anything up for voting but I did vote and I did enjoy the smooth way the site worked.

Once again Grats to everyone!

I think we have also seen that the above poll results were wrong. Not many sketches got awards (and those that did were from very popular shows). I really think there needs to be a separate cel and sketch section for each category.

Congrats to the winners. Glad to see a lot of my choices got nominated.

I totally disagree about the idea that sketches weren't proportionally represented in the winners population. Not including fan art, I counted up the sketches in the categories and found that they numbered 75, out of a total of 380 entries. That's 19.7% of the entries.

Here are the sketches that won:

Accessory:
3rd Place

Comic:
1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place

Insanity:
1st Place

Male:
3rd Place

Outfit:
1st Place

Rage:
3rd Place

Shikishi:
1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place

Sorrow:
2nd Place

Villainous:
1st Place

Animated:
2 2nd Places
3 3rd Places

Settei:
1st Place

And here I've totalled the number of sketches entered into each category. As you might see, in many categories there weren't any at all.

Accessory: 3/18
Action: 3/16
Background: 0/7
Children: 1/14
Comic/Manga: 6/6
Creature: 0/9
Cute: 3/12
Death/Dying: 0/15
Embarrassed: 1/9
Female: 2/22
Funny: 3/17
Group: 2/25
Hanken: 2/11
Harmony: 0/8
Heroic: 2/8
Insanity: 2/7
Joy: 0/9
Male: 2/17
Outfit: 1/8
Rage: 1/15
Robot: 0/8
Romance: 5/17
Shikishi: 8/8
Shocked: 3/18
Sorrow: 2/17
Special Effect: 0/9
Villainous: 2/12
Animated: 14/19
Hentai: 1/9
Settei: 6/10

If you look at all of these numbers, you can see that there isn't any real great disparity, other than the fact that sketch submissions dropped off a bit this year. But still, they got first place in Comic, Insanity, Outfit, Shikishi, Villainous, and Settei.

Out of a total of 30 categories, that's 20% sketches that got first place. Hmm... so 20% of entries were sketches and 20% of first place winners were sketches. Why again do we need to split the entries for next year?

Well, depending on what we're doing around this time next year(and members actually wouldn't mind organizing this again), it's something we could implement as an experiment next year.

It could be Anime Beta Awards v. 2.0 - Paper vs. Plastic :)

And, depending how others feel at the time, due to voter turnout, it may be completely feasible to add more categories for next year. I'd like to see a "Tranquility" category.

That's what I love about this awards - is that each year we build on what we learned from the previous awards, thus being able to create a smoother and, hopefully better, process.

Killua, you need a hobby. By the way, Comic and Skikishi don't count. There is no chance of a sketch going against a cel in those categories. Oh, and you can rule out Background as a category, as no sketch backgrounds were entered(I've seen only one since we started this thing).

Bwahahaha. :D On that count I agree. But I do have the hobby of cel collecting. Yeah, comic and shikishi don't count, but same with background, harmony, and special effect.

In the end I was quite happy with the results, even though my favorite ones didn't win. 8)

Only 8? You are quite mature.

I'm just as guilty of it as anyone. When I voted, I looked at everything. However, I rarely chose a sketch over a cel. I guess I am old school in that way.
