I suppose there could be a "Most Votes" ... of course, that's up to two people: cutiebunny, and if bulleta wants to make one more ribbon
As for the cel vs. sketch thing -- someone just sent me an interesting idea via PM. She suggested perhaps a summer "Beta Awards - Paper Version" kinda thing. So basically, instead of handling the full load at once in the fall/winter, do a paper-only contest sometime in the summer months and then the usual cel event in the fall/winter. I thought this sounded like a good idea to me!
Just on a side note .... If it's ever wanted--I'm more than willing to work on improving my code for this site to make it easier/more adaptable for future contests. I'd even continue to host it (though, the way it's written, it would function just fine on most hosts).

It's fine with me.zerospace wrote:I suppose there could be a "Most Votes" ... of course, that's up to two people: cutiebunny, and if bulleta wants to make one more ribbon

Thank you to everyone who voted for mine. ^_^ Even the ones that didn't do so hot.

Thanks. Next question?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Congrats to all the winners!!!
I just want to thank everyone that voted for my pieces.
I also feel that CB, ZS, and Bulleta need awards of their own for organizing the awards this year and doing it so efficiently.

I have no problem with it. I know we've had them in the past.zerospace wrote:I suppose there could be a "Most Votes" ... of course, that's up to two people: cutiebunny, and if bulleta wants to make one more ribbon

This is really a superb idea and kudos to whomever suggested it. I would totally support this and I think it would create an equal playing field. As for the cel vs. sketch thing -- someone just sent me an interesting idea via PM. I second this idea and would love to be a part of it. I've really enjoyed helping out with the Beta Awards and would love to do it again.
I propose that we establish a generic anime beta awards site and hold the contest on that site every year(or bi yearly, if this paper and cel seperation idea is accepted). I wouldn't mind registering a site and hosting it(if Zero doesn't mind if I just use the same codes..). I've never done anything like this so I have no idea as to what fees are involved, but if I can help streamline the process in any way, I'd love to help.Just on a side note .... Well, if folks like the idea of a mid-year sketch awards ... that's up to whomever wants to volunteer to run it to establish the first annual event!
I certainly have enough CG art that I'd be ready to enter
.
------------------------
On a related but technical note:
The issue is how to establish a site that could easily be handed down from one set of organizers to the next. I guess this is the primary reason why it hasn't been done yet. Nearly any site would require a password or something to be passed along, and let's face it... cel collectors aren't always known for their longevity in the hobby (many people are always coming and going from this forum and hobby
). This is the main reason I've just said that I'm willing to share my work with future organizers of awards, or even work to make it as generic and easily adaptable as possible (without requiring each new set of organizers to know the same languages the site was written in).
What I can do is take this year's site code and re-build it so that it may be adapted easily by future organizers (essentially, the organizers may edit page text, category lists, and settings like file or image sizes...). This is a tad more work than I make it sound, but it isn't all that far off from what I've already created. If people really liked this year's site and want to be able to easily use it's core in future contests, I will happily do this (though probably not right this minute -- maybe in another month or two or three -- I have other personal and professional programming commitments to take care of in the meantime
).
On hosting: Hosting a site like this requires something more than a free host, generally. File uploads and a lot of active scripting on pages consumes resources on host servers -- for a decent host, the cost can add up quick. I host many sites on my one account partially for this reason.

I'm glad most of you liked the site this year
, and again -- I thank you all for participating and putting up with me *laughs*

Just checked the awards and was pleased to know I won two awards
Thanks for everyone that voted for my stuff and congratulations to all the other participants, winners or not, since this is about our joy for these items and not so much for competition. At least that's what I think
And obviously, thanks to everyone that made this happen

Well done to everyone who entered this year's event. For those who didn't win this time round, don't feel disheartened because I voted for a LOT of pieces that didn't feature in the top three
Still, can't believe I only came second in the Hentai category- I'll have to try harder in 2009! j/k Seriously, I'm not surprised Silus won with his Mezzo setup; it is impressive.
