How long have you been collecting?

Reading the cel/sketch highlights of 2004 thread, I'm a bit surprised by how recently some people have joined the hobby (considering their gorgeous collections). I have sort of always felt that the average shelf-life for most cel collectors was around 2-3 years before they moved on, or so it seems when I've watched 'I'll be buried with my cels' people leaving the hobby. Perhaps with a community like Beta around that will be less likely to happen. Anyway, I'd be interested to see where the majority of Beta falls.

That said, on with the poll and happy cel hunting in 2005!

I started collecting cels from this August.... But it is difficult to say b/c when I was in a Jr high i used to make fancel before.....
Anyway, I have been really really lucky to meet many good ppl through this hobby

So, I am really happy that I started collecting cels

I'm in the over five years category. Its a little tricky for me to say when I actually started though. I "collected " freebies from a variety of sources for a while. Here is the first cel I ever owned.

It wasn't until a few years later that I jumped in and started to seriously buy cels.

Either way, both "start" dates are over five years.

Well, considering how quickly my collection has grown ... and how horribly addicted I seem to be to his wallet-sucking hobby ... I'm rather embarassed to have to admit I've been collecting for a little less than a year.

I actually got my first two cels two years ago, but never considered seriously collecting until this past year. I think it'll be a year for me in February or March ...

Sigh ... now, I'm feeling quite addicted, and quite pathetic.

well ,
lets see i'm in the 4-5 year catagory. I started in summer of 200 but tat was mainly us cels, then got a couple of anime cels cheapies of ebay. then in jan of 01 thats when I really started, thats when I found the internet guide to anime cels, over winter break. (things went down hill from there, and yep i miss that site it was well put together), but from what I noticed to was the 2-3 year rule, people had money issues,people issues, or just moved on

It will be 2 years for me in January.

I do have to say that joining anime-beta in March 2004 really made a huge difference for me. Because of this network, I bought may more cels than I ever would have know about otherwise. There have been sales from other members, new websites, information, major help and support from other members, not to mention an outlet to share my treasures. I know my gallery would not be half of what it is without this forum.

This is such a great place!!

I bought my first cel in 1999 - a CCS cel (which I still have). I didn't start seriously collecting until around 2001 though so I put my vote in for 3-4 years.

I only started cel collecting about a month ago, and I am so glad I made it to these forums safely.

At first, I was quite intimidated when I looked at the list of the number of members. So many people I do not know...

But now I've settled in thanks to a few cel-buddies and everybody on the forum.

Thank you very much for making me feel so welcome.

I love this place now. It's so cool.

Just over 4 years here. I started collecting in the fall of 2000. My addiction is still strong although I am thinning some of my collection. But other parts are growing so maybe I'm not really thinning.

I started in March '01, so almost 4 years. I was a broke college student, so for a while, I didn't have very many. Once I started working though, my collection grew quite a bit.

I'm about four months shy of five years now, judging from the data on ebay that says I signed up in April 2000.
