Metal or Wood??

Post by star-phoenix »

Well, since we have been talking about framing, I want to know what people think. Which is better? Metal or Wood?

I have never heard anything about either one being safer or better for a cel. I think metal frames are generally cheaper. But, which one do you choose and why??

I personally go for wood frames - I prefer the way they look (and usually, I go for black ones or I'll sand down the frame and re-finish it if I want another color). I don't like metal because of the retention mechanisms.

Yes, metal ones are usually cheaper, but if I spent a ton of money on a cel, I'll spend a decent amount to do a good framing job as well. I feel it's worth it. Then again, I can save a few bucks having a matt-cutter in the house :D

I choose wood frames because I currently have about 5 cels being framed with black wooden frams ( will post pics very soon, should be getting them back this week) so you can check those out and see if you like them, I dont think it matters as far as one being better then the other, its just a matter of personal preference, and from what I saw at the store yes the wooden ones were more expensive

Whichever matches your cels the best. I generally have metal frames
because I liked how they looked with the first few items that I had framed
and now I usually get metal to be consistent.

I choose if it's gonna be a metal frame or a wood frame based on the cel. I usually take it into the frame shop, and put up all kinds of framing next to it to see which one I like best. I don't know if one or the other is better than the other, and from my experience the wood frame was the cheapest one of my 3 cels framed so far.

I cannot vote because I have no preference. I will use both kinds, on a case by case basis.

metal or wood

Of the cels & artwork I have framed most are framed in metal custom frames.

It truly depends on your home decor plan as to which you perfer.

Like people have said already, I have never heard of one being better than another.

I just pick what I think is going to look best with the cel and in my home.

I have all metal -- some silver but most of them black. I would pick wood if they went better with the cels though -- it's just that I like the nice matte black metal because they don't draw attention away from the cel. they look more like a border around the cel :)

BLAH! I hate wood! :kamehameha: :splat
GRRRRRRRR!! :kaioken
..
.
on that note.. I like metal lol! :D
The matte or shiney black ones. You can never go wrong w/ black its a classic /no1

As to why I despise wood.. I dunno I hate the way wood looks. :? :P :x Its all rustic and old-foogey-ish. (no offnse to those that decorate w/ the brown colors)
Gimme modern furniture, metal, and black-everything any day! :multi (kinda defeats my personality dont it? lol :emb)

I like wood and metal for art in general but for cels I prefer metal (black in particular). I feel metal gives it a little more 'edge' to the whole cartoon/anime look...

I have a rather dumb question to ask. Are metal frames hard to use? When I am looking at side pictures of them, they have a "C" shaped side. (top and bottom peice sticking out). How do you actually get the cels in there without damaging them? Or does the bottom part dettach?

After seeing this post, I am probably going to try out a metal frame for one of my cels, but want to make sure I am able to do it without damaging it.
