A TC inspired thread

Everyone has that one cel in their gallery that they can't believe they own. It may not be your ultimate wishlist cel. You could still be waiting for that one. But I'm sure everyone has a cel they can't believe they have even if you just starting collecting. When I first started collecting, I just couldn't believe I owned a Sailor Moon cel of Sailor Moon.

So show me your HOLY GRAIL!

For years, I wanted my favorite character from Fushigi Yuugi but never saw any cels of him either for sale or in galleries. Literally minutes after this cel of Amiboshi went up for sale, I contacted the seller. At the time I thought I was crazy for the amount I spent on him. Now, there are too many cels in my gallery with more money spent on them but definitely not worth more to me.

I'd have to say for me, my Heero OP cel is my 'holy grail' (though I'm still chasing my absolute top ultimate wishlist cel):

Back before I bought him.. I wanted a cel of him from this OP - Animegame had several, and they kept disappearing (the cheaper ones, that is) until the only two left had such huge price tags that I thought I'd never be able to afford one. Then... I got a nice tax refund that covered part of the cost of this cel - so I bought him, pulling the rest of the cash needed from my pocket. And I'm ever so glad that I did.

Sadly.. I have several other items in my gallery that come close to the price of this cel, but not quite. He's still the absolute most expensive cel in our entire gallery.

Yeah, I'm still going after my ultimate wishlist cel too.

That's a wonderful cel of Heero. I've often been wanting a cel from that sequence too but the pricetags . . .

I've been a huge fan of Bubblegum Crisis for years. It was one of the first anime I ever watched and it had all the elements that I needed in it to make me love it and call it my favourite.

I only started collecting the cels just over a year ago after I branched out from merchandise collecting. I thought about what scenes I'd like a cel or two from and the number one wishlist scene was and is the sequence from the beginning of episode 1 where you see Priss singing in her performance outfit.

This scene is highly sought after so I never thought I'd be able to get one due to price, let alone the rarity of actually finding one for sale.

It's hard to choose a favourite out of my Ep-1 Priss cels since I've been lucky enough to get four so far but the one mentioned above is a perfect close-up with the "in-light" colour palette. I'm so happy to have it in my collection. ^_^

Uh ... not that I love this cel in a way that is wholly unnatural and, most probably, illegal in several states, but ... um ... yeah ...

Still the most expensive cel I own ... and yet an amazing bargain. An A1 END pan cel, a major-character-introducer, and an episode-ender. Golly! It still gives me the willies to look at it in person. [/url]

Well, there is absolutely no way I can pick out a cel from my colleciton since almost all of them I am suprised to own.

But, for sketches, I would have to say this sketch I am surprised I found. I asked someone to look for one "like" it (showing a picture from a wall scroll), and they found the EXACT one I have always dreamed of owning.

Count me in as one who's still chasing (and will be forever dreaming about) her ultimate cel!

Still, there are several cels in my gallery that I am amazed I own. (This question will be so much easier to answer in a couple of months! Once I've paid off a cel and can legitimately claim that I own it, that is.)

For now (this very minute -- in five minutes I could well select another one), of the seven cels that come immediately to mind, I'd have to say this one:

Clow Reed has been such a hard character for me to find, and I love everything about this cel -- his outfit, the shadowed (yet not dim) tones, his enigmatic, highly-genki smile, and how well he integrates against the absolutely non-matching background!

He's a bit of an oddball in my group of favorite guys (notwithstanding that he is tied for first as my all-time favorite anime/game guy) in that he's usually pictured as smiling very gently. Most of my favorite anime guys tend toward angsty frowning, or sporting intently angry eyes!

When YJ implemented a final value fee a few years ago, sellers hoping to beat that date put several cels from this fairly short scene on the market. Very expensive. I lost every last one. I was so bummed out. And then another one showed up quite a while later...and look at him!!

Two eyes even!
