Keeping track of auction rivals

Post by Keropi »

Does anyone keep track of their auction rivals (eBay or Yahoo Japan)?

I've been writing down a few auctions I wanted to keep permanent records of off of Yahoo Japan. It would be interesting finding out which names pop up the most frequently in auctions I bid in.

This would be all in the name of good fun of course. :)

Sometimes, in a reference sense...

I've have a page that lists all the CCS auctions by top 3 bidders. It gives one a really good idea of the amount of action in the category and who is bidding.

That's a good idea. I should keep track of the top three bidders in all the auctions I bid on and all the people who bid in the last twelve hours of the auction if they're within 50 percent of the final high bid.

I wonder whose names will appear the most on the list? ?^_^?

Some people I recognize only bid in small amounts like 2000yen to 4000yen. I don't think those people are in the same category as the ones who bid within 50 percent of the final bid. I'm going to have to think about how I'm going to go about calculating this.

Each title should be counted separately from the others since "obsessions" vary depending on the series. :D

No, I haven't. Never even thought of doing something like that before. I just occasionally come across names I recognize, but that's about it.

I don't write down names but I do make a mental note of who is wining and who won.

Totally what she said! :)

Never even crossed my mind. Probably never do it. Too lazy with too much other stuff going on to really care. Kudos to those who do have the time and patience though. /no1

I don't have a list of rivals on YJ, but I know who are the competitive bidders for certain series. It's more of recognizing them on auctions, or sometimes wondering if I'll see them bid on an auction. Most of the time, though, I couldn't keep track if I wanted to, since most of my rivals are rinkya and chaosminions.

it's helpful to have a list handy when it's car burning time.

There are a few names that I recognize as being frequent rivals. There's one
that I don't particularly like because of the way he bids...waiting until the last
30 seconds and keeping on auto-extending auctions, over and over again.

I hate auto-extending auctions! Eck! There are a couple of bidders that I notice as well...mostly Japanese bidders from YJ, but they don't really bother me because I win when I can afford the $$$ I definitely back off for friends though.

This kind of statistical info always keeps you amused, Keropi, you crazy number freak, LOL :)

To be honest, I do this for all Viper, Mezzo Forte and KITE cels I see on auction.

It helps me to keep track of who owns what artwork and I can see how much they usually bid which gives me an insight for when I'm bidding against them. Knowing their limits and bidding habits gives me the upper hand. I can bid more effectively with this knowledge; but I wonder if they do the same thing with me?

I've mentioned this in a previous thread- I save the auction image then go into the image properties and leave this sort of info in the Summary field:

"Seller = twin_angels_xx Winner = rost0bdozin, 23,500y. 16 Bids. Sunday 29th October 2006. Runner Up = blackwater, 23,000y"

When the auctions are as heated as some of the ones I go in for, it's prudent to know your enemy  :D

hehehe I buy a lot of cels from twin_angels_xx ^.^
but I wonder if they do the same thing with me?
That is a good question! I guess they probably do as I tend to get into bid wars with a lot of the same people!

Krafty & Keropi,

Somedays you two scare me the way you track stuff. I think I recall Sensei doing this stuff with CCS auctions also. On the bright side, it's probably easier to track the japanese bidders since most of us foreigners use deputies.

Today's new phrase: "Beware the Auction stalkers"
