Seems to be a co-production between France and Japan. The French studio even moved to Japan to work directly with the Japanese studio on the project for three years.

That explains a lot. When I started watching the show I thought it to be European. But the end song kinda took me by surprise. I considered it to be like Teen Titans(an American cartoon with some Japanese references in the mix).
I hope this means more sketches will appear in the future

Crazy. That's dedication. In the end it took [Savin Yeatman-Eiffel] a total of nine years to complete the series (the concept was created in 1997, with initial production having begun in Paris in 2000, later moving to Tokyo in 2003).
Like you, I figured it was a solely European production with typical anime influence, something along the lines of Winx Club (Italian) or W.I.T.C.H. (French).
